Forge Oil Cooler fitted

Post by Lewbo » Sun Jul 11, 2021 4:44 pm

Just fitted the new Forge oil cooler kit, superb quality kit and easy to fit. Performance wise it seems to keep temperatures down a little better than the OEM cooler it’s marginal as the standard cooler does a decent job, definitely brings the oil temp down faster after a good blast. Only issue I had was the old cotton reels to the PAS cooler were knackered- replacements are easily sourced. The OEM cooler lines were 95% rust/dust so looks like I caught it just in time.

Ah, reminds me, I should put a post up about the trials and tribulations I had when I had to take mine off to repaint the cooler a few months ago.
Suffice to say most of the fixing bolts needed dremelling out and the cooler itself (setrab) isn't covered by the *lifetime* warranty.
The pipes were though as one of mine started leaking.
Not the separator though as they were gonna charge me for that (bit late as should have been on the pipes while providing replacements) and I'm not too happy about removing/refitting AN connectors.
Anyway, long story short, change all the Allen headed bolts for proper hex and get proper rubber mounting bobbins and do away with the supplied aluminium ones...

Recently also fitted the Forge kit and found it excellent, better and more cost effective than the Audi replacement parts.

The cooler unit which comes as part of the Forge kit is Setrab.

I've had mine done in the last couple of weeks. My cooler/pipes weren't too bad but had been on the car 7yrs or so. So far very happy with the Forge kit

I would say yes depending on driving conditions and if you live in a slightly hotter climate like me year round, keeping the already high temperatures that this engine operates at slightly lower is always good.

Yes I would agree, I found the Forge kit top quality. Its also approx half the cost of Audi replacement which doesn’t resolve the bi-metallic corrosion issue.

I have a corrosion issue with mine - how much is the kit and where have people sourced theirs from?

Help greatly appreciated, many thanks.

Hi

Bought my Forge kit from Demon Tweeks, was just under £900 when I bought mine, think it’s about £1000 now. Could also be sourced direct from Forge Motor Sport.

Cheers

Many thanks. My indy is seeing whether there's anything his fabricator can do, and at a grand I'll happily let him!

EDIT: They reckon they can fabricate parts to fix for £200 or so. Here's hoping.

I fitted the Radtec cooler on mine, similar to OEM, sourced the pipes from stateside - wont name them  as one of the AM12 connectors was faulty, emailed them and the said send it back so we can investigate and then send you another even though I sent a video and pictures - pay customs again for that , I dont think so! just bought another for a couple of quid

In all fairness to the company they did offer me a solution albeit a crazy one

Good luck, Forge kit is a good quality solution, don’t think you’ll regret it.

Thanks. Car gets returned tomorrow - can't drive it for a week or two because of surgery on Friday. Tsk...
