New RS4 owner in Hampshire

Post by Chris93 » Thu Apr 22, 2021 10:37 am

Hi everyone, I have been lurking on the forum for a while now and just take the plunge and bought my first Audi RS car, a B7 RS4. Really enjoying it so far its only done 53k miles in lovely condition.

I have it booked into Regal auto sport for a dyno run and carbon clean although engine feels quite strong to me! Looking forward to the next few months of good weather driving in it.

Looks great. I wouldn't go to Regal. Another chap on the forum just had a bad experience with them and myself and other VAG owner friends have encountered issues previously too.
Far better specialists in the south. JKM or Autowork are a couple of examples.

Very nice, enjoy!

I'm the unfortunate chap that beckford mentioned. Very bad experience with my carbon clean at Regal, went from bad to worse as time went on, and I'm more than happy to share my experience!

First, they unknowingly dropped a bolt into the gearbox inspection hole during the job. They reported a load metallic noise from the bell housing and that the car was undrivable. Must have been negligence or a rushed job to not notice a bolt go missing. They started speculating the clutch and/or flywheel was broken and wanted to charge me to investigate. There was nothing wrong with the clutch before handing it over, or during any of their road tests, but they were adamant it was broken.

I had the car recovered to JKM (who were brilliant) for them to investigate the bell housing noise. Clutch was fine but they found the missing bolt... More on that here viewtopic.php?f=35&t=140943.

Once the car was back on the road, it was back to Regal to get the post-clean dyno run. They found more issues with the car losing power up top and power spikes around 7,500rpm. Again, immediately started ridiculous speculation about the diff being broken and dragging or something. They investigated further and spotted it was pulling loads of timing above 6,000rpm. So, back into their workshop and they stripped everything back off again. They must have pinched or forgot a vacuum pipe when putting it together the first time, more negligence. Nothing wrong with the car once they fixed their mistakes and made 410bhp.

Hope that gives you an idea, I'd like to think that was a particularly bad or rare experience, but it still shouldn't have happened.

Look forward to seeing you around on the Hampshire roads :thumb:

It's really interesting to read because I'm not just here as a hater to post about Regal. I used to use them a fair bit and they started off ok but over time they just got worse and worse. They obviously have a half decent reputation because they're always busy and they have some serious metal in there, but you only have to dig a little bit into their reviews or google search them across other owners clubs and you start to hear a lot of horror stories. They overcharge too which leaves a sour taste. There's no honesty whatsover and if they can't find the answer on a problem, rather than admit it they will FIND something to charge you for and I can't stand that. I'll never be going back.

On a side note I'm gutted that you sold your B7 so fast. I'll be in the market for one in a couple of months and am also im Hampshire, would have taken it off your hands! Ah well hopefully I find an equally good example! :)
