Non starter

Post by Adymars » Fri Apr 16, 2021 9:54 pm

Evening all. I have a B7 cab with 90k on. Its got a new Bosch battery, it's trickle charged throughout the week and I can heat the relays working. I used it a week last Friday and since then it's not started. It won't turn over. Could it be the starter motor ?? Im gonna get RAC to diagnose it I think.

Clutch switch fault could be the reason, if the sensor is stuck 'open' the start stop button won't work.
You could try removing/unplugging one or both. Worst that will happen (I think) is that you will lose cruise control and the car will start without the clutch being pressed down.

Changed 4 starter related relays, 2 batteries before I determined it was my starter. Have similar miles and started out as intermittent starting issued to eventual not starting. Pulled codes mentioned low voltage across the relays which make sense if your starter is bad. Good test is to check voltage drop when starting. If it's a new battery and the voltage drops while you crank the key, time for a new starter or maybe ground cable.

Starters are not too expensive, if you can DIY the job wasn't so bad also.
