Help with fault code - 01314 - Engine Control Module

Post by SimonS4MTM » Fri Sep 11, 2020 7:06 pm

Hi all,

It's been a very long time since I have posted, but I am looking for some help.

My car has been sat away for quite some time, used for around 160 miles in the last 12 months. A few weeks ago I took it out for a spin and had engine cut out at high revs, over 6000 rpm. TC and EPC lights came on dash. Engine kept cutting out at high revs a few times when trying before i got home.

Found multiple fault codes with VAG-COM and cleared them.

Drove the car 1 week later and had the same engine cut issue at high revs. ABS fault code and ECM fault code logged with VAG-COM. Cleared the codes again.

Drove the car again today and engine cut again at high revs. ECM fault code logged again.

Fault code is;

1 Fault Found:
01314 - Engine Control Module
013 - Check DTC Memory - Intermittent
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00101101
Fault Priority: 2
Fault Frequency: 1
Reset counter: 40
Time Indication: 0

Freeze Frame:
Hex Value: 0x5C00
Hex Value: 0x4006
Hex Value: 0x0025
Hex Value: 0x01A3
Hex Value: 0x0001

This fault code has logged every time the engine has cut out.

I have searched the web and found a few suggestions. Anyone else have any experience of this and have anything to add.

Thanks in advance, cheeRS,

Simon

That seems very familiar to me..

I'd need to double check my logs, but the code rings a bell and the symptoms were the same.

Long story short, I needed two new ECUs...

Hopefully it's not the same for you.

Oh crumbs.

I hope that’s not the case.

I have heard some people change relays for the ECU’s

Yeah, that was the first course of action on mine but it did not solve it, so was new ECU time.
Now this was a main stealer and an independent might have had a different approach.

Anyone else got any advice. If not then I feel a trip to MRC might be needed.

Maybe a bit of a long shot, but what about fitting a new MAF sensor? I've heard of it bringing on the TC lamp permanently when it goes faulty, and possibly with the car not getting used its not reading properly now....just a thought as an easy part to replace, and not too expensive compared to ECU's.

Cheers MIDZ.

The MAF was new just over two years ago just before a carbon clean at MRC.

Ah ok Simon, that kind of rules that out then...strange it cuts out at 6K? maybe even try a vacuum function test with your VCDS and check everything works as it should

Anywhere between 6 and 8k.

Vacuum test is worth a go. Not done it before but I assume it straight forward with Vagcom?

Will take a look at the vac hoses for the exhaust valves that I blocked up a few years ago also.

I've done it a couple of times and followed the good write up on here under the FAQ's thread. It's not a difficult test to run through
