What problems/costs can i expect on a 93000 07 model ?
What problems/costs can i expect on a 93000 07 model ?
Hi everyone
Just looking at buying a 4 owner FSH non molested example with a perfect spec.
I have owned 2 of these cars before with no problems but never got to this mileage.
Could i ask all you engineers and current owners of cars of this mileage what to look out for and what questions to ask before viewing ?
It's a trade sale from an independent dealer who has 5 star ratings from previous customers and will come with 12 months MOT and 3 months warranty, which as we all know could be worthless in a major claim.
I've always loved cars and the B7 has been one of the very best but at 68 this will probably be my last car purchase so it has to be the right one, i don't do many miles now.
Any questions welcome, thank you very much
Victor

Re: What problems/costs can i expect on a 93000 07 model ?
Buy on condition and history more than mileage.
Look for clutch and flywheel change, oil cooler and suspension. Rust around the arches, bottom of doors and roof. 12 year anti corrosion warranty on these but some have issues.
Recent carbon clean, if done a lot of miles ago then the chances are the carbon has built up again if driven sedately.
Brake discs are expensive, check for lips on the discs.
When you test drive try to take it up the rev range, should notice a change at 5k when it gets in its stride (hard to do on a test drive within speed limits though).
Check the dash for warning lights, make sure the S button works (most OEM flaps will be stuck in place).
Tyres, not as expensive as most think. You may notice a “rub” on full lock which is a non issue.
Hope this helps.

Make sure the seat bolster on the sports seats work when the S button is pressed. Ensure sure it's enabled in the options menu on the dash.

If the car has been swapped to bucket seats from comforts, then the bolsters don't inflate with the sport button even if enabled in the DIS menu.
You can still check they hold pressure using the manual buttons on the side of the seat though.
To be honest, I never use them anyway.

Re: What problems/costs can i expect on a 93000 07 model ?
victor2vt - Did you make the purchase?
I have just acquired a 2006 Cab with full Audi History, which has had new Brakes all round 6k ago, Tyres 2k ago, DRC changed under warranty (although 2011, no advisories on misting etc since) and Oil cooler changed under warranty in 2011. Both Aux rads changed last December. All known big ticket items addressed for now.
Comfort seats and non FBSW are in the original spec, so no bolsters to check.
I will be the 6th owner, but this doesn’t bother me - the car is 14 years old and the ownership history show it moved within the same family 3 times so technically I am the 4th owner with Audi being the first.
66 thousand miles and although the cab is a heavy beast, she still flies. The car was purchased new for £61k (no discount!) in July 2006.
The only 2 ‘issues’ were she needs a detail including under bonnet & Exhaust flaps seized shut. I have checked for vacuum issues, and the air is blowing strong to the rear solenoids, so a soak in WD40 and some 3 in 1 will sort it.
The chap I purchased from looked at me like I was from another planet when I was asking about the usual issues!
Good luck

No I was put off the car by a member on here who had viewed the car in January, i did think at the time if it was as described it would have been sold within 5 months.
As it is, the car has now been sold so who can you believe ? See my other post for the car I was looking at and the response.

Re: What problems/costs can i expect on a 93000 07 model ?
Ah, read the thread - fair enough. Someone may have ‘accepted the challenge’ of getting it straight.
I was considering a 61K miles / 06 Saloon in Black at a dealer in Middlesborough. Good spec (roof, buckets, FASH etc) but the dealer could not answer any of my questions re DRC/Oil Cooler/AUX rads/Brake change/Exhaust flaps.
Pictures looked good, but decided to go for the cab as it was a couple of £k and 12 miles from me not 100+
I can provide the details if you want? - car was up for just over £16k if that is close to your budget.
Thanks
Dan

Many thanks Dan but the dealer was obviously not wanting to answer your questions for a very good reason !!
It's obviously going to get harder and harder to find good examples of the B7, Early B8s are actually coming well down in price now
Cheers
Victor

Re: What problems/costs can i expect on a 93000 07 model ?
Hi Victor,
I have found out why they didn’t call me back, the car in question sold on Wednesday. Sorry for the false hope and that you find a decent example.
I ran a B8 for 3 years after my B7 (with a brief flirtation with an RS5 in between - kids hated being in the back of the 5!), and although the tech and features are much advanced of the B7, I found the drive much less involving and wasn’t that sad to see it go. I bought a Mini Cooper S Clubman in place of the B8 and found that just as much fun (and a damn site cheaper to run!).
A year on and the bug bit again, hence a B7 - 2 days in and the drama and involvement is great.
Cheers & good luck in your search.

I had an R55 Clubman Cooper S as well. Only kept it a few months as never quite bonded with it. Traded it in for an R55 Clubman JCW which was fantastic fun.Silverfox42 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 07, 2020 7:49 pmHi Victor,

Brilliant car, wish I never sold it. It was a 14 plate with the N18 engine in Spice Orange so really rare as well.
Finding a good B7 is getting harder but there are still good examples out there. I would value condition and history over low mileage.
