I don’t think this’ll Tcut out!

Post by Fatneck73 » Mon Nov 11, 2019 8:08 pm

So, plodding along towards home, get to a notorious junction nr me hence I’m going prob 20-25, young girl turns right straight into me! No airbags went off in either car. We had her checked over and she’s fine. Seemed like a nice ‘young lass’.

Am assuming, coz this happened at a cross roads (I was on main carriageway) but with an ‘S” in the road, she either just didn’t see me coz of the car in front of her or it was coz of the Low sun behind me???? She apologised, admitted fault and I have 2 independent witnesses so all should be good but......my poor 4. At least no one was hurt.

FSH. 118k miles..just mot’d and taxed 😢😢😢.

Write off???

Glad no one was hurt.
Did the insurance company write it off just by seeing that photo?

I feel your pain - if it is a write-off, especially.

I'd insist on a repair especially as you were not at fault, it's your car until you accept a payout. When they wrote mine off for seat theft I bought it back and got some second hand seats for £2k. I'd have made a profit if I hadn't spent the money on a respray and a few other bits!

That's easily a write off.

this had me wondering...

If a car like this is smashed and repaired by the insurance company and ends up with a CAT rating... this clearly affects the resale value of the vehicle.

Do insurance companies here pay you for diminished value as well?

It also affects your actual ability to sell it too! Having owned a desirable sporty car before that was rare and exclusive in its niche, but written off as a cat C due to engine hydrolock flooding (a simple engine replacement fixed it!) even though I was trying to sell it at 60% of its non cat value, it took me about 8 months to shift it on! Its fine if you know the car, and its repairs, and don't intend to sell it, but when you do, you will massively struggle!

Why will it end up with a cat rating if it is repaired by the insurance company? The cat categories are for cars that are written off so won't be repaired by the insurance company.
