Replacement Parts

Post by demon8991 » Thu Aug 22, 2019 12:47 pm

Hey all,

I am after two replacement parts if possible.

The catch on my centre arm rest is broken/missing and so whenever I lift the arm rest up it falls open and anything I have in it falls out.

The child lock electric windows button doesn’t stay pressed down. This means the windows can never be opened from the back unless the driver holds down the child button.

Any ideas, I am based in Australia too.

Both are common problems...

You’ll need to replace the main window switch in the drivers door. Which means the entire door trim needs to come off. I use the Total Technik YouTube channel for any of the things I need a bit of help with.

You can either go cheap and get the switch, used on eBay/Rockauto or, It’ll set you back around US$80 for a new genuine VAG part. Cheaper for a new URO part. Amazon might be a good source for cheaper shipping. With the Aussie $ having taken a nosedive against the US$ recently, don’t rule out your local dealer.

The armrest cover is generally not cheap, so again depends on whether you’ll be happy with a used part or not. There are plenty on EBay.

I bought the armrest latch off ebay cost me less than £2 at the time but works a treat. I think i found a YouTube video on what to do, not difficult.

Received my latch this week and fitted this morning using the below video, wasn't too difficult at all. Thanks for the help.

Next repair job is the window switches.

Is there any reason why I shouldn't get the below switch from China for $15?

It appears genuine ones are around $135.

While I’m not a fan of simply paying over the odds because of a name, you do tend to get what you pay for. These switches do fail, so why get one that most likely hasn’t been made to the same standards. If you don’t want to get a genuine VAG part, get a üro part.

Have a look at a online retailer called cars245.com. They sell genuine parts at far lower prices than you’ll find at stealerships.

Yeah I tend to agree, I normally go for the OEM too. However in this case given the amount of people that have problems with OEM window switches from the B6 and B7 era it is probably fair to say that the OEM switches weren't a particularly good unit.

Will do some digging on cars245.com

Just a thought but the window switch is now on revision D, so there have been a few updates since it was first produced. Hopefully, for reliability.

Cars245.com is based in Eastern Europe and I’ve never had a problem with a part being anything other than genuine. The shipping does take a while but the prices they charge, more than make up for the wait.
