Just wondering if the auto dimming side mirrors were a option on the b7 rs4 fixed side mirrors?

A friend has a 08 Rs4 and it seems to have the blue like tint on the side mirrors, if it was a option then what was the option code for them...

Yes it was an option, 200GBP at the time for Auto-dimming rear view mirrors, with light and rain sensors and coming-home function (headlights remain on for a fixed period after key is removed from ignition)

It wasn't a listed option for the fixed side mirrors - the only dimming option was in conjunction with folding ones

But - I did a special factory order as I wanted memory seats (which also remember mirror pan/tilt, and I definitely didn't want folding ones) and it was configured as follows

SPECIAL ORDER FACTORY OPTION
Drivers Seat with Memory 3L4
Auto Dimming Rear View Mirror PU9
Door Mirrors Heated - Auto Dimming - With Memory in Standard RS4 Design 6XM

So, the 6XM mirror auto-dims, but is going to be rare as hens teeth as I'm not aware of any other car specced this way. Unless your mate has my old car, is it one from abroad, where the option might have been more widely available?

I have a set. . And they are about as rare as you can get. Cost me silly money. Once I have the garage sorted I’ll be fitting them.

You can’t have memory seats with the recaro bucket seats. They are manual so nothing to remember but you can have it with the comfort seats.

If you chose standard mirrors (like the ones on the S) you could have folding too. They came with auto dimming as an option and memory too. Retro fitted them to my S just before I sold it along with rear view, auto lights and wipers.

Folding did come with auto dimming, but not with memory as there was no memory module unless you did an exclusive build

What I’m not sure about is whether the auto dimming / folding ones dipped on reverse. Mine did, but unlike my previous S4, you had to have the mirror control pointing driver not passenger, as it was a continental module that handled the controls!

Did you have the RS4 mirrors? The smaller ones not the standard A4 ones in silver? My understanding, and I could be wrong is they didn’t do a dip on reverse on the RS platform. Do you have a picture?

US cars came with dimming wing mirrors (fixed not folding) and the right one dips, if you want when you put it in reverse. Of course they didn’t get the buckets.

I can dig out a picture, but trust me - it’s the RS4 mirror. Alu, fixed, twin arms etc. Dip on reverse wasn’t standard as it needs a memory module - which itself wasn’t available on the RS models. The combination I posted (which was on the advice of a good dealer, after a lot of research) got memory comforts where there was none offered, added auto dimming RS4 mirrors where this was only an option for the folding ones, and threw in dip on reverse (albeit with a continental twist...) where previously thought impossible!

Kenny’s spot on - things were easier abroad...

Yeah my car (Australian) has fixed auto dimming side mirrors. No dip function though.
