Deflapped manifold vs stage 2 manifold gains

Post by James1984 » Thu May 23, 2019 8:41 am

With every car being different and some more power than others is the stage 2 manifold much of a gain? I have stripped and walnut blasted my manifold and keep thinking should I get the manifold done, once it’s mapped I don’t think it will be worth getting the manifold done and mapped again, what am I looking at 5hp max?

I recently had MRC do deflap, carbon clean and remap. The vacuum actuator on one bank had broken due to flaps/shaft starting to seize up. For me power was returned to std and no more, but the torque was up to 460Nm and that made a great difference.

Are you just talking about having the manifold done, or about manifold and stage 2 remap?

Manifold and remap, car is getting a stage 2 map regardless but was wondering what gains the stage 2 manifold would have over a deflated manifold, Ive fitted the manifold now as time is against me, we are in the middle of putting our house up for sale so the car needs finishing. I might do the manifold at the next carbon clean if it’s worth it.

I see. Can't comment on the manifold as only had mine deflapped, but the remap has been a revelation.

It’s just one of them things where it’s the ideal time to do it but I’ve got to stop somewhere, I haven’t driven it since September.

It’s where the flaps in the intake manifold for maximum air flow

Thanks - do you mean there are flaps in the intake manifold that are removed ?

When removing the intake manifold flaps, is the shaft left in place with the sensors etc? Surely it better for airflow to have it removed? Is there a kit to do so?

The shafts are left in and connected, I did look into having a aluminum rod machines to fit so Shen ported it would match perfectly but decided I was chasing minimal gains for maximum costs, no kit exists that I know of
