Coilover options?

Post by Guv » Sat May 11, 2019 6:56 am

Hi guys, greetings from South Africa! just recently picked up my dream car, a 2008 RS4 avant and really loving it.

I've done a carbon clean, new oil and coolant flush and am now ready for some mods.

First order of business is to get some low but I still want to maintain a decent ride quality without breaking the bank. KW V3's are out if my budget so I'm going to go for either KW V1's or Bilstein B14's. I don't intend on going too much lower (guess I'm getting old), probably 10mm on the rear and 25mm up front but I still want decent comfort. Any thought or advice as to which option will suit me better? Thanks in advance!

Welcome along.

Is it white bread or brown bread you deliver in you bread van :jump:

I have got KW V1’s and I am more than happy with them, for the toad I personally don’t think you need the adjustment of the V3’s. If you are not planning on going that low then it might be worth looking at Koni shocks coupled with springs of your choice, this thread might be worth a read viewtopic.php?f=35&t=118598

Get some photos up of the 4.

Cheers

Thanks FraserD,

I thought about that route but think it will end up costing more than going for coilies, might call Steve to sort the fitment though. His work is top is top notch.

Have you modified your inner arch linings in any way? I find that even with my stockers I get rubbing at the rear on some steep driveways.

Will get some pics as soon as I take some decent one, thanks mate

Hi Guv , My sons own a specialist suspension company in Bobsburg . we do a lot of the RS4 cars there and we were the first people to offer a sound alternative to the DRC system many years ago when the DRC systems started to fail . Here in Uk we have the added problem of corrosion which you dont get in SA . Some bills for repairs here are R70 to R 80 k . let me know if you need the details they have a fabulous reputation for fitment as well . ( they import H&R and KONI into SA )
Be cautious with Bilstein the MONO TUBE upside down technology ( designed for racing ) is harsh on the road , and i have had many clients complain about the comfort even though they can appreciate the better handling . The KONI dampers are Dual tube like the DRC and offer great comfort with perfect handling . The H&R lowering kit is 25 mm and this is perfect for stance and comfort . ( You may not know but all KONI sport kits use H&R springs , so its a great match ) you really dont need Coil overs to get a nice look , but if excessive lowering is wanted you must use a coil over , but don't expect great ride quality !
