Brake Shopping - WHERE TO BUY

Post by JRG1210 » Wed Apr 24, 2019 1:15 pm

Hi All.

Recently got my first B7 RS4 and loving it. The seller did advise me though I will need to do a set of discs & pads in the near future. Any suggestions on brand/retailer?

As i'm not doing any track time - just normal road usage don't need anything special. Been to the usual suspects - EURO CP and Carparts4less. They also don't appear to offer one brand that does all discs front and rear and pads front and rear... why is that.

cheers

Brake discs and pads are quite often done by different manufacturers. Brembo do their own pads but they aren't rated that highly.

For fronts: Brembo discs are the same as genuine Audi but much cheaper. I bought mine off Amazon in the US when I was over there for work - cheapest I found anywhere in the world. Was $600US or so for 2 discs from memory.

Also bought Ferrodo DS2500 pads which come highly recommended. Some brake dust but not too bad. No squeal, good stopping power, haven't noticed any fade but I just do spirited hills runs no track work. They don't have wear sensors so you'll need to rig up an alternative to prevent getting a warning light - most competent garages should be able to do this easily as part of the install.

No idea on rears sorry, haven't crossed that bridge yet.

AP Racing are more expensive, but on the second set cheaper as you can re-use the bells.
Ring AP as you can't buy direct.
I have DS2500's
My RS4 stops on a sixpence and far outperforms a standard setup.

Reyland Motorsport front discs. £360 pair. Use your existing bells.

Or Cartech at https://www.cartech-one.co.uk/en do Brembo fronts. Look out for offers there and Carparts4 less. Can be had for £560 a pair on a good day.

Rears. Carparts4less with their 17% off deals

Do you know whether it is literally everything you need to do front discs and pads? I'll be using a local indy for this, given Audi's massively increased labour rates over the last few years.

I fitted the reyland rotors and brembo pads to the front. Might be worth while price for pins and shims aswell as these can be damaged removing them. Mines were rusted solid

I’ve bought stuff from them before. No problem.

The discs are the same Brembo that everyone else offers.

That price doesn’t usually hang about. It’s normally around £590 ish.

I got my Brembo discs from ECP during a brake FLASH sale for £465 delivered. I then bought Ferodo Premier brake pads (think they're FDB4165 or something, would need to check). I don't do track days but the braking performance is excellent.

Believe it or not, braided brake lines alone can make a big difference. It’s probably the first thing I’d ever do if I started from a bone stock car all over again.

I’m running stock disks and pads with HEL braided lines all around and good fluid with regular changes. They’ve been great to me, I drive my car how it’s meant to be driven and they’ve never let me down. No warping, however you’ll get squealing after a good kicking. Oh and a <beep> load of dust.

That was close... I put an order in late last night! Although the order confirmation says 562 euros not GBP. Which would be even better. Believe it when I see it though

I'd be interested when you get it if you could confirm whether everything needed is there - as I say I'll be using a local indy and providing the parts, so I don't want the inconvenience and delay of him needing to get hold of other bits.

Thanks in advance!
