Climate Control not Regulating Temperature

Post by Owain55 » Mon Apr 08, 2019 12:30 pm

I’ve got a problem with the climate control as it does not seem to be able to regulate the temperature of the cabin. Changing the temperature (while in auto) has no impact on the air temperature coming out of the vents. I can take it off auto and adjust the temperature in manual. When in auto from start-up it blows ambient temperature air and then warm air once the engine has heated up, it seems to also blow warm air through the dash vents and cooler air to feet.

Once I’ve turned the temperature down manually and set it back to auto, it continues to blow at the temperature set when in manual with no adjustment to compensate for ambient temperature. Thinking about it now, the fan speed doesn’t seem to adjust either. I am able to adjust airflow to screen, vents or feet. Passenger and driver zones are equal temperature.

The air-conditioning is not working due to low pressure but I think this is unrelated as it’s not trying to blow cold air at the moment.

Has anyone experienced this before or know what might be wrong?

I had a similar issue to yours about a year ago. It turned out to be the Receiver Dryer a tin shaped part connected to the compressor that had become clogged up with crap. The OEM part (8E0820193J) was megabucks so ended up getting one from the states 'Comfortauto' https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/332211968564 ... Tags=bu=bu for $26.99 plus $36.00 freight $62.99 total which was about £50 - not bad saving compared to OEM! The killer is the labour which took about 3.5 hours. The air-con is now working OK, nice and cold as it should be.

That part is readily available and cheap in the UK from the usual suspects.

Only the part number you suggested ends with a J yet the online shops show different letters.

Was that diagnosed through fault codes? I haven't had the car connected to Vagcom yet.

It was diagnosed by Robnic when he was doing my clutch. On the way up to him I noticed there was no cold air coming from the vents even when set on low - so I mentioned this to him and he told me I needed a new receiver dryer and then a re-gas. Can't remember without looking at my old paper work if he used Vagcom and what fault code if any came up? I eventually got the part and my local indy did the work.
