Whether it’s simply an urban myth that’s grown a life of its own or whether it’s based on reality, too many owners have had the flickering light issue and changed the bulbs, only to have to change the ballasts not that long after.

I know I did.

It might cost you more in the short term but as some of these cars are now over 12 years old, it makes sense to just change the bulbs and ballasts at the same time. Especially as it’s a bumper off job and the bumper is such a joy to remove. :audibash:

My only piece of advice is that you have to code the new ballast to the car before you can adapt it. It’s not difficult to do but you can’t simply plug it in and have it work without errors.
I'll take it this is just coded through Vagcom then?

If you go the brand new route, they should already be coded for the B7, if they’re second hand or refurbed units that came from an A3, for example, you’ll have to code them to the car. You then adapt the units. It’s not difficult and you can do it all through Vagcom/VCDS. There’s a thread on Audizine that explained it all. I’ll have a look and post the link for you.

Have a look at the part number on the Sticker, on the top of your headlights. You only need one side and then you can be sure to get the right ballast. Or you can run a Vagcom scan and it’ll list the individual ballast part numbers in the results.

Let me know what the headlight part number is and I’ll get you a ballast part number. PM me if you want.

The ballast is the same for all xenon, with or without AFS.
