RS4 B7 Intake Manifold Deflap - Mapping issue 6800 RPM

Post by Greigzy » Wed Mar 27, 2019 9:56 pm

Hi All,

I have been a lurker for a while, but have recently purchased a 2006 B7 RS4.

A few days after purchasing it, the EPC light and engine light came on, and it was found to be the intake manifold runner flaps.

The flaps were then removed using a delete like the JH Motorsport kit from America. A carbon clean was carried out at the same time. As I knew the car would require a remap, a had the precats deleted at the same time. The sensors for the intake manifold were left disconnected at this time.

Obviously, as the car had these items removed, the EPC and engine light were still on when the car went for mapping. This is being done at a local remapping company that I have known for a few years, in conjunction with a well known mapping company modifying the map to suit.

Fault codes at the time it went in were:
P2014 -
P2019
P2008
P0421
P0431

A map was installed, and all lights were removed, however the rev limiter hits at 6800 rpm.

The car was returned to the garage who in conjunction with the mappers have struggled to improve this.

No fault codes are displaying on VCDS.

A smoke test has been carried out on the vacuum system and all vacuum items seem to be working.

I know that they have increased the rev limit but something seems to be stopping it from reaching its max RPM.

Would anyone know what they could be missing/what issue the car might have that is stopping it rev throughout the whole rev range?

6800rpm is the EPC "limp home" rev limit.

Does EPC still show on the dash?

Mine limited at 6800 when it had a vac leak. Where are you based? I would take it to a specialist. Unit 20 or MRC.

Based in Aberdeen, but a well known mapper is Scotland is doing the map wor. Dont want to name names incase they cannot complete the works.

No EPC light remaining on dash and no fault codes appearing.

I have a very similar issue at the minute. Intermittently hitting at 6800 limiter. IM flaps still in place as working perfect by all accounts, carbon clean, custom stage 1 apr map with flap delete. vac lines checked, coil pack checked, ecu sensors checked, Faulty air box flap solenoid replaced. Still no improvement. It goes from blisteringly fast free revving to power loss and 6800 cut out. Not sure what else can be checked? It’s driving me crazy

It seems to be on the mend now. The original ecu map was put back on car and debugged, appears to have sorted but advised to run like this for a few weeks before trying again with Stage 1 map, although do quite enjoy the kick at 5500 being back... thanks to the continued persistence from the team at Revolution on this

It sure how much it relates to your problem, as I think yours is serviced well but I had similar issue in the 6k+ band when I was getting close to needing a carbon clean, and went away post service. However, I did also experience the flap error a few years back and first coded it out for a while following by then replacing the intake manifold to not hide an issue. Mine related to to much play in the assembly and not a de-flap.
