Seat Back Protectors for Buckets

Post by Owain55 » Tue Mar 26, 2019 2:26 pm

I’ll shortly be collecting an RS4 with buckets and I would like to protect the seats from muddy little footprints.

I’ve had a look through the search function and found plenty of threads on rear seat protectors (which I have just ordered) but nothing on which protectors fit the back of the front seats – I assume there is a limited number because the head rest is integrated.

Any advice appreciated.

Please for the love of Octöberfest!
Don’t call them “wingbacks” that’s not what they are called. They are reclining bucket seats. Or simply “buckets”

And no sorry I have no answer to your question as never even crossed my mind that they need protection.

How about a vinyl wrap, could even use the clear stuff they use to protect paintwork ?

I bought something off amazon that does exactly this. It also has handy pockets for your little one's bits and bobs. Let me find the link.

They are made of hard plastic (actually some sort of fibrelgass / resin on the inside with what looks like a plastic outer coating) so mud won't hurt them. Just wipe them clean.
If you are worried about scratching them then get your kids some softer shoes. Or as suggested wrap them with maybe a gloss black wrap. I did mine myself in gloss white (not to protect, just for the looks) and they came out pretty good for an amateur. Or PPF if you like the dull plastic look.
I did buy some seat covers from ebay a few years ago which covered the entire seat. They were tailor made for the RS buckets so a perfect fit and even had the RS logo embroidered onto them. They were very cheap and came from the far east. Last time I checked on ebay I couldn't find them.

This is the closest I can find at the moment. Just to be clear though, the idea was to use this when I had dirty clothes on and needed to run to the shops etc not for every day use.

Thanks for the responses. I’m more concerned about the little scratches that come with rubbing dirt into the back of the seats, rather than the mud itself. I’ve got the same on my A4 at the moment but as it’s an old work horse, it doesn’t matter.

JamieJ, that’s the type of thing I have been looking at, I just wasn’t sure if they would fit the bucket seats because of their shape.

I really like the idea of a vinyl wrap – I hadn’t thought of that. It would provide the protection and could be very neat, if applied correctly.

The other option is my mother-in-law is a seamstress and I could ask her to make something that would clip to the back of the seat.

I was concerned too but they fit fine. Additionally the fixing straps dont get in the way. From the front seat you'd hardly notice they were there. I'm sure the others on amazon are of a similar design.

The only hard bit I had with the vinyl wrap was getting it neatly into the seat belt hoops. I probably needed to heat it up a little more to make it softer and more stretchy. But otherwise it looked really good in my opinion.
