Is this safe?

Post by MrRSB7 » Sat Mar 23, 2019 2:52 pm

Hi, I’ve finally
61192BE6-67F7-44CF-BD5B-6B24A49EE84B.jpeg
just purchased what I believe are genuine RS5 alloys

They are a tight fit, but they are on!!

However .... they don’t sit on the centre of the brake disc as there is a difference in size!!

Is this still ok?

Or do I need parts 😂😂

What's a brake door ?
Is their movement on the hub ? You'll need spigot rings if not and they wont be safe without the rings

You'll get vibrations through the wheel if you drive it like that. More importantly, they wheel spokes sit very close to the caliper and if not sitting centrally the wheel could end up hitting the caliper.
The centre bore of these wheels are bigger than the centre bore of the car so spigots rings are needed. Thought i pointed this out the other day but might have been for a set of RS6 wheels but the spigots are the same size.

Yes thanks, you did.... but it was in relation to the rs6 wheels

I had the impression the rs5s were plug and play😂

The RS5 / RS4 B8 switched to a larger centre bore, 66.6, same as the RS6 C7 but the RS4 B7 uses the smaller size of 57.1 so you still need some spigots to centre the wheel properly on the hub.

Guess the new wheels won't have tyre pressure sensors which is why you've got that warning?

It doesn't look like the new wheels have TPMS sensors on.

Yes that should work. Obviously means you need to remove tyres from old wheels (and put them back on possibly), then remove tyres from new wheels and put them back on. For me that would cost about £160. If you intend on keeping your old wheels as winter wheels or similar I'd just buy a new set of sensors.
Or wait until you need new tyres on the new wheels.

You can switch the TPMS warning off easily enough if you have access to a VCDS cable. Can't remember the exact coding but there is a thread on here about it.
