Ok the old girl has done 129K as of today. When i got the car it had just had a MOT and the garage said the car was a little smokey and the garage said its normal for this car especialy as he ownes one and his is the same.
When i pull her out the garage and it is just on idle its noticeable and also when at the lights and you look in the mirror.
The car does not like to go in 1st gear when its cold the engine but once the max 7000 RPM goes out it goes in fine. Its also jerky from 1St to 2nd unless you take it slow and let the revs of and catch the clutch or full on 8000RPM change fast. There is no slipping in the clutch and it sets of in second fine, a little test i seen online and tried. . Would you think the gearbox oil needs to be changes as it is to thick when the car is not warmed and the oil ?
I found out by a post on here that i need the top and lower clutch swith replacing as mine does not start by pressing it once and also the cruise controll dont work.
The car is in for new pads and disks to be skimmed this saturday and they said they can fit a new clutch for £700 and its a better clutch than standard, cant remember the name of the clutch but if someone mentioned the name i would probably remember as im crap with names.Lux comes to mind but i might be wrong as there was two names he offerd
I have cracks on the leather and found a guy on the internet he quoted me £240 for all seats to be repaired and also re died and sealed. i thaught this was cheap and i seen his site and he has done alot of performance cars with before and after.
Carbon clean is in for the end of february they quoted £400 or if its bad another hours labour so £450 and thats for the wallnut blast. he is local to me and like 2 mins away every outher price was over 1K and 20 miles away minimum. Im also going to get the terra clean for anything back from inlet valves as there must be alot of carbon back through the system.
When i have full lock on and turn round in the courtyard to put the car in the garage there is a wired judder turning, but it only does this when turning round full lock. Is this the 4 wheel drive judder where the tyre treads are different ?
Sorry for all the questions its just i dont want to get into spending all this money to be dissapointed and waste money and time. I paid £11500 for the car at 128k and seen it as a project to make as good as new and keep till 200K plus. Its a dream car since i seen it on top gear vs the mountain climbers. Im 35 and want to keep it till im 40 at least

Don’t worry buying a high mileage car, if it’s been serviced and all the right parts have been changed. No 1 is the oil cooler pipes

Smokey
What colour is the smoke, if it's white then it’s probably you oil separator.

Gear box
Try changing your oil and clutch first.

Clutch switch
Don’t know

Disks and pads
Why are you getting your disks skimmed, give them a good clean and drill your holes out if they’re rumbling

Cracked leather
Good move

Carbon clean
I’d go for the walnut blast. I had mine Terra Cleaned and it felt better.

Power Steering
If you RTFM it will tell you not keep it on full lock as it will make a whining. I’d recommend draining your power steering fluid and refilling it. I did mine and the old stuff looked beyond bad.

And most importantly rule No1 especially if you're starting a project

Probably an luk clutch. £700 sounds cheap for a clutch! Is he replacing the flywheel too it's false economy if you don't and it fails soon after. Yes tyre treads can give a juddering type noise when on full lock, usually worse with lower treads and colder temperatures its pretty normal on these cars.

Top clutch switch will also make jerky gear changes.

Thanks for the replies guys Just got back from TPS and orderd both clutch switches forgoten to order the oil separator. Im going to get the oil in the gearbox changed hopefully on sat if they have enough time and also the power steering fluid changed. The garage suggested to skimm the disks are there is loads of life in them, its just if they have warped a little he said they will wear uneaven on the new pads. It was alot cheaper than buying new disks also so i thaught i would give it a go.
I will have to find out abot the flywheel i dont think they added that to the quote, i do recall he said it would take 7 hours labour.

The garage talks absolute bolx, your disks aren't warped. How on earth can new pads wear uneven on used disks. Just drill your holes out and give the disks a good jet wash.

Changing your power steering fluid is a piece of cake, you just need to buy one of these.

The guy i found on the internet for the leather is call paul from https://leatherrevive.co.uk/ they are nationwide and come to you.
Ive tried fitting these clutch switches but now the car wont start with the start button. Ive fucked arround in the snow for about 2 hours and the best i have got to is leave them dangling not plugged into the metal slot and the car starts now. You do not have to press the clutch for it to start. Going to get a few brews and warm up before i go back out again and try and figure it out.
Going audi now for 2 new switches and the garage will fit them for me on sat i think it was just beyond my skill to fit them and broke them.

I ended up back at TPS rather than audi as it was crazy bizzy in there i got the new switches and orderd one of these as the one i have is disgusting from the previous owner, it cost £125.50 abit steep i thaught but will make the world of difference. Had anyone fitted one before ? Does look like it clips in, i just hope its not screwed in from the bottam of the bumper and it needs to come off.

Looks good mate. I bought a new one for mine too and had it done in carbon to match the front splitter.

Your gear change problem sounds identical to the one I’ve just had. My flywheel failed and snapped the clutch strap, which whipped around the bellhousing destroying the crankshaft sensor and knocking 4-5 holes in the bellhousing.

Long story short I needed a new clutch, DMF, bellhousing repairs, sensor and lots of other ancillaries. It wasn’t cheap, but once the box is off it’s worth replacing whatever you can to save having to drop it again.

Im sat here waiting to get the car back from the clutch switches and the front breaks done. Makes sence to change what you can when you get in there. When i go pick the car up ill pop over to where i got the car from and ask him to contact the previous owner. When i test drove it there was low coolant so i found this forum and it was indeed the aux radiators leaking. When i told him he knew the previous owner and rang him and he said that they had been on the car since he owned it. I have just been through the service history and there is 1 service missing but i have the reciepts for the parts in a wallet he gave me. So it does look like the car has been maintained propperly.
Im getting it back in for all fluids changing was going to do myself but would rather just pay for it to be done propperly after my fiasco with the clutch switches. Found this on ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Audi ... 1298387609. Going to just get the lot done in one hit.

Just got back the car now starts by one press of the button and the jerky gear change has stopped. Feels tike a totaly different car feels brand new.
