Odd Mis fire

Post by Rw@@dy » Sun Nov 11, 2018 8:11 pm

I’ve got a mis fire when On part throttle, no issues under full throttle. Changed spark plugs and have quite new coil packs. Read about checking the injectors so looked on Vag Com -

Bank 2 injectors don’t look great compared to 1, should I be looking to replace them? On fault shown is a random Mis fire

I think you can look at the misfire count per cylinder so from that you might be able to work out which ones are giving you issues.

My one had 3 or 4 injectors replaced before a random misfire was fixed. It mostly showed up at idle but sometimes under load as well. The injectors were weeping in my case, the spark plugs were wet with fuel which was causing a reduced spark.

Now when my car goes for an MOT it only passes the emissions test on the right exhaust because I assume the unburnt fuel has damaged the left side cats!

I would check the sparkplug condition on that one then. If should be dry with white deposits on it I think. If it is wet and oily looking then likely the injector is passing.

If I remember rightly, number one is under the air intake duct and is a pain to access?

You could change all the injectors but I only did the ones causing problems and that was 30,000 miles ago.

Ok, personally I would consider changing all of them, for example I’ll be doing a carbon clean at 70k and will install 8 new injectors, not sure how much they cost over there but here in the US, most of the guys in our owners chat ended up purchasing the OEM Hitachis at Rockauto.

For reference, half of my injectors have done 158,000 miles now with no issues.
