Modifying the RS4

Post by sportsandclassic » Sat Nov 10, 2018 6:23 pm

Hi Everyone,

Well had the RS4 for 3.5 years now and other than sports exhaust, gut the pre-cats and a MRC map I have left it pretty standard.

Almost sold it but could not bring myself to do it.

So thought I would customise the car a little....
Suspension is knocking from front quite a lot now - DRC has issues. New Bilstein PSS9 suspension ready to go on the car.
Carbon interior trim set of eBay on the way to replace the satin steel inserts.
Spray wrapping the satin exterior trims to look like black optics pack.
Got a splitter of eBay coming.
Got a new set of BBS CH-R Nurburgring satin black with red edge stripe coming from Germany and a new set of Michelin tyres.
New floor mats and boot liner to finish it off.

Will update with images as the work progresses.

Doing the window trim and roof rails black will make a big difference and the new wheels will look a treat. When you say sports exhaust, what do you mean? I’m thinking about gutting my pre cats as I have the resonator delete but not sure if it’s worth the effort. Is the MRC map a stage one or two? And what are your thoughts?

Cheers

Hi, I knocked the pre-cats out when I removed the gearbox to do a clutch and flywheel.

I have a resonated Milltek valved system with stage 2 MRC map.

I think the car looks pretty good as it is to be honest but if you fancy a change then why not. Should be easy to put it back to standard again in the future if needed.

Picking up a second set of standard wheels in black next month, curious to see how they will look against the silver trim and mirrors.

Not that many red Avant's about so looking forward to seeing how your one looks with the mods.

Did you notice a difference in sound when you gutted the cats? What were your thoughts on the stage 2?

Hi, I noticed a bit more of crackling and popping without the pre-cats installed. The map is good but when cold they are quite jerky and kangaroo a bit unit warmed through. I know the secondary air injection system is disabled to enable this quite start but it’s still quite loud, once mine is all done I am going to book back in with MRC and see if they can possible tweak the cold / warm up fuel mixture tables and richness it up a little as to me it seems a little lean when cold but we will see.

Other than that it goes really well.

Like I say I looked at selling it and did sell but pulled the deal the day before as I could not part with it.

Mine has had a lot of work -

Carbon clean
New fuel pumps
Full service
Ignition coils
Clutch
Flywheel
Slave cylinder with piping
Tyres
Brake discs and pads all round
A bit of suspension work
Wheel alignment
Auxiliary radiator

Well, fitted the carbon interior I bought off eBay. What a difference that has made. Very pleasant.

Also fitted the front splitter today.

That splitter looks good mate. Look forward to more pictures as you continue modding the car.

The splitter looks good but looks unpainted. I'd have it painted either gloss black but then it wouldn't match the alu trim. So I'd go for black optics.

Spacers on rear already. Just need some time to put the suspension on. Probably mid December before I get chance!

Roof bars removed now.
Mirrors and base plates removed.

All ready for painting and spray wrapping.

Going to paint the mirror bases satin black and mirror covering a gloss black.

All other trims are going gloss black.

Should be done for next Friday. Image
