Installing another DRC shock

Hi All

I am currently having DRC issues, front right is leaking and is very clunky. There is another forum member here in Australia that has the opposite, his front left bit the dust. He has since installed coilovers and is selling his remaining shocks quite cheap ($300 AU).

My question is, can I simply just install his working right hand front shock? Would these have been de-pressurized to be removed and would require a re-gas once installed?

It's a hydraulic oil of some kind . To my knowledge you will have to have it repressurised as your replacement shock will have no fluid . I removed my drc shocks last week due to a large leak at the hard pipes / valves . And when I disconnected the shocks and tipped them over there was still a fair amount of fluid still in them .

The system has to be topped up and regassed once you connect the replacement damper . unfortunatley not many people have the machine to re charge it and usually the Audi dealer needs to do it , I would get a price before hand , it might be more than replacing the system with a new system

Hi Oxblood 8 , performance Coil overs arent everyones cup of tea a lot of people like to keep the car as close to original as possible and that is achievable at reasonable prices . Easy to fit and results are perfect . Car stays at the height it is standard but the ride quality is superb . A fraction of the cost of performance Coil overs and a lot more comfortable.

So if I wasn't to go the coilovers route, what are the best alternates to DRC?

Search for reviews on koni dampers on here . Myself and a few others are now using them with good results. I fitted mine July this year and would recommend them as a road setup.
