Tax bracket ???

Post by AZRSB7 » Tue Oct 02, 2018 9:56 pm

Can someone please explain why there are 2 tax brackets for the b7 rs4? I see some are £315 and others £555. I can only think it has to do with the co2 emissions? But hang on, both are the same at 324 g/kg.

I apologise if this has been answered before but I’m a bit perplexed as mine sits in the £555 per year bracket.

Has this been addressed before?

Cheers Az

Rules changed, cars produced before the change are cheaper.

April 2006 onwards is the higher tax bracket. I think I've only ever seen a minute handful in the lower bracket

I think the saloons were the first off the production line so only these early cars come under the cheaper tax bracket. A few 55 plate press fleet cars are around I think.

That was back in the days when Audi only made one RS model at a time. Now they slap an RS badge on anything if they think they can shift enough numbers.

simple cut off date-if before its "low theft" tax if above its high theft-they didnt backdate the tax to be on all high output cars thankfully
like fag tax, fuel tax, drink tax, sugar tax if they can use it as an excuse to rinse money out of folk they do

At the time, I'm sure I recall the Labour government tried to backdate it to 1st March 2006, but after a backlash, they rescinded and agreed to make the changes from the day after they were announced on budget day 2006. Thanks Gordon

No car tax is not based on your income. CO2, and now also the value of the car if over £40k retail.

Sorry for reviving this old thread. But, I was looking for some loopholes to minimize my taxes. I've heard that sometimes taxes you pay or your car also depend on your income. Do you know anything about that?
This relates to running a company car. Not Road fund license.

I bought my 2006 saloon (registered 6th March) in 2011 so tax savings of over £2500 have certainly helped in the running costs, particularly a replacement engine in 2018 !

It certainly acts as a small incentive to keeping it
