Gutted cats

Post by BenHol » Wed Sep 05, 2018 6:53 pm

Has anyone gutted their own cats?
Is it difficult. Just thinking about it so I can have flat shift and crackle mapped in.

Cats or pre cats?

If precats then yes there is a guide on here to guide you through it (or was it on another forum?). So the answer is yes it can be done.

If main cats, then what's the point? Be much easier to get an exhaust fabricator to replace the pipe with straight through pipework.

Yeah thinking of gutting the pre cats, not sure if it will effect the mot though.

Providing everything is ok and they get the car up to temp to 'light' the cats they will pass the MOT emission limits with just the pre-cats removed.

I never had any issues with MOTs and no pre cats.
I had a remap at the same time. You might get a fault light on dash without a remap. Not sure if fault light on dash is an MOT failure now.

+1 for passing the MOT with gutted pre-cats. Just make sure you got sensor spacers, to avoid getting a cell error/warning light. And warm the car up first.

Mine’s pretty loud with decats/h-pipe/std rears. With no rear boxes I think it would be too loud for day-to-day use.

You can’t have flatshift and crackles with just gutted pre cats, you’ll need de cat downpipes.

Yes you can :smile_smoking: Might just prematurely kill the cats if used too much.

MRC said they can but cannot be sure how long the main cat will last

I think it would eventually decat itself with the crackles but not sure how long that would take !!!
