Exhaust heat sheilds

Post by bennn » Sat Jul 14, 2018 8:57 pm

Tried to repair my rusted heat rear exhaust sheilds today but the nuts just crumbled off the studs and the studs have no thread left now.

Is there anything else I can do other than grind them off and have new ones welded on? Could I bond the sheilds on somehow?

Do I even need them on the car?

Cheers

Ben

Not sure they need any thread to be honest. They are not really nuts, just have a sharp offset on each side which would grip any stud.

Order one but and see how it goes on, I definitely would just remove them.

Ah that's good news. I'll get some ordered and see how it goes. Thought they wouldn't be there for no reason so wanted to keep them If poss!

Thanks

Yeah think I can make it out. I'll get onto audi on Monday. Glad it was the heat sheilds loose though and not my rear shocks knackered!
