I give up!!! Please help

Ok....

I changed my front calliper earlier in the year for ceramics. Took the calliper off, out the new on, bled both callipers and job was done. Whilst I was there I fitted braided lines.

4 weeks ago I though I should finally get round to changing the rear lines for braided too.

Again took the lines off, new ones on and went to bleed the system to find the nipples were seized and eventually ended in stripping the nipple threads in the callipers.

So, had the drilled and hellicoiled, re drilled the nipple seats and whilst they were off ordered a calliper refurb kit.

Sent the callipers to be blasted and powder coated. Got them back yesterday and set about refurbish them.

But if a pig but managed to take them apart and change all seals, gave them a good clean out and put them back together.

The lines have been left open for three weeks or so, as a result the fluid has completely drained from the system.

Started to bleed the system today and the fronts bled with no issues, loads of air came out but eventually stopped, the tears did the same but I seem to have a continuous stream of bubbles coming from both rears, it never clears. I have put over a gallon of fluid through then now and still the same. Initially I thought maybe it was sucking air in last the bleed nipple threads but that doesn’t seem to add up. Then I thought maybe it was getting into the calliper.

There are no leaks when you jump on the peddle so that doesn’t make sense either.

Anyway, the peddle is soft, if you double pump it is hard, but the next time you press it, it’s soft again. The brakes work but they are not hard like they were.

I read some stuff about the ABS pump tonight. Saying if you let the fluid drain air get trapped in it. Seems you can use Vagcom to run the pump up and clear the air.

Anyone had any experience with this and any help they can offer me?

If the abs pump got dry than the only way to bleed it again is to use Vagcom to cycle th pump. When I was doing BBK on my other car. I got Vagcom specifically for that reason and ec m had a print out of the instructions what to do I case you have to bleed abs pump. But for the life of me can not find it. Been a long time ago... I have the Vagcom if you need it mate

I had exactly the same issue with my rear calipers last year. Had to get them helicoiled and tried to fit new bleed nipples only to realise they need a special size which you have to get from Audi.

In terms of bleeding if you’re not using a power breeder then it might be almost impossible to get them perfect. The only thing I can suggest is the old trick of bleeding them upside down.

Good luck

I have a power bleed. It’s not helping. I have walked away for the weekend otherwise I’m gonna set fire to it. Next week I’ll purge the abs pump and then hopefully all the air will come out!

Thanks for the laugh...I just spat my coffee out. I thought I was the only one who wanted to burn my car, when it’s being difficult.

Difficult! It was difficult when the pinch bolts seized and I had to cut the hub carriers off both sides to fit new ones! This is taking the piss!

Can you not loosen one of the unions on the abs unit and let the air come out whilst the pressure bleeder is connected ?

crack the pipe/s to the abs module from the brake master cylinder to abs module while assistant presses or you pressure bleed it-common for air to be trapped there

equally common for the master cylinder to be toast as you have pressed it beyond its normal stroke[clean area of bore] while bleeding causing damage to the seals....

you can also use a cheapo vacuum bleeder on each corner-about £15 quid, excellent little bits of kit-great for the final bleed through
