Front Driveshaft/CV Joint
Just had all the front suspension arms changed for Lemforder arms. Car feels great to drive now with 4 wheel alignment done too.
However, I am now noticing a slight knocking sound on taking up drive, as well as clicking noise on turning. I know this points to a CV joint and have checked all the boots and they’re intact. How do I verify which joint is failing? Or could this be something else? Anybody experienced this? CV joint failure seems to be rare on the RS4.

Yes I am unfortunately.
I changed the cv and all suspension arms and now noticed that is the driveshaft joint knocking. But a creeking noise still there

Re: Front Driveshaft/CV Joint
I had exactly this too. I just replaced the whole drivers side drive shaft and joints. Problem solved . Think it’s becoming common as Audi are offering a service exchange discount.

Re: Front Driveshaft/CV Joint
Do you mind me asking what sort of price for a complete replacement shaft & joints from Audi? I was quoted £130 plus VAT just for outer CV joint (not inc the surcharge) so a complete shaft must be pricey.

Found out myself from TPS they’re £330 plus VAT each not including the surcharge until the old ones are returned.
Re: Front Driveshaft/CV Joint
Mine was about £350 from Audi.

Re: Front Driveshaft/CV Joint
A few weeks ago I noticed the car making a clicking sound that appears to be coming from the front passenger side. The noise occurs at low speed when turning right and then stops once I straighten up. I can only hear it when the windows are open.
I assumed it was a CV joint problem so arranged for the car to be looked at by my local Audi dealer. They agreed that the car was making a clicking noise but they couldn't find anything wrong with the car. They said it was most likely to be a driveshaft or a wheel bearing but said it could also be something else such as a steering issue.
From the symptoms and looking online it seems that the driveshaft is the most likely cause of the noise and I'm tempted to get a new one fitted but I want to be as certain as I can be that it will fix the problem.
What do people think are the odds that replacing the driveshaft will fix the issue?

My car makes a slight tic-tic noise from the front right when turning at slow speeds (car parks etc) and I read up and suspected CV joint too. I gave it to my specialist and asked them to look around and they couldn't find anything wrong. Been giving them my cars for years and totally trust them, they know what they're doing. I asked them specifically to remove the CV boot to have a look underneath and they spent an hour pushing, pulling, prodding and bending, and there was nothing to say.
I've recently had completely new upper arms, lower arms, hub carriers, wheel bearings and tie rod ends (you can guess why - pinch bolts seized) and I've also read that these can make some noises.
So it will, for now, remain one of those things. As long as she's mechanically sound I'm happy.
Get a second opinion and if it's still nothing, I'd leave it. I used to throw parts at my M3 when it made noises and in retrospect, some of it probably wasn't necessary.

Thanks for the response. I think I'll follow your advice and get a second opinion before deciding on what to do. Hopefully, they'll say the same as Audi and I can save myself a few hundred quid!tommchowat wrote: ↑Mon Jul 23, 2018 2:30 pm

Re: Front Driveshaft/CV Joint
Did you have the black powerflex bushes and did the metal outer sleeve end up with some wear damage? I had these on my previous Avant, finally noticed the issue and where the noise was coming from and took them straight out and went back to OEM. Can’t have been on the car more than 2k miles.Softishman wrote: ↑Sat Jul 28, 2018 10:12 pmMy clicking sound is now gone, it was my powerflex bushings on the front, rear, lower controll arm, switched back to oem and all good now!

Re: Front Driveshaft/CV Joint
I’ve just replaced all my front suspension arms for OEM Lemforder ones. The noise I have is definitely more like a CV joint on the way out than a bush.
Re: Front Driveshaft/CV Joint
on old taxis and high milage company cars we used to swap cv joints around and sometimes turn tripods around to stop clicking, lasted the same milage again as they only generally wear one way with the drive-in those days even a normal cars cv joint or shaft was expensive-not cheap like nowadays
not a repair i would recommend with an rs4 though lol
