Putting car into storage

Post by irishmike » Sun Jun 03, 2018 12:43 am

So it's looking like I'll be putting the RS4 into storage for a few months, prob 9 I'd say.

I've an S3 thats the daily now and a nice secure spot to store the RS.

Couple of questions!

It's just due a service, based on time, not milage.
Would it be worth getting an oil/filter change before packing away. ( bout 4k dune since last service)

Car covers, any recommendations?
This is what I'm thinking

Leave on wheels, or put up on stands?

Leave sit, or bring for a sneaky spin regularly, it will be. SORN as the tax is 1800 here!

Any other things to consider?

Cheers

Disconnect the battery negative terminal or plug in a trickle charger. I had mine sitting for 7 months while overseas and didn’t do this, had the mrs fire it up a few times but didn’t help. Ended up having to replace the battery.

Yeah, that's something I'll definitely do.
Happened me before but luckily enough I got it covered with a Halfords warranty.

A decent trickle charger would be a good idea, one that conditions the battery.

I'd consider putting it on axle stands as tyres do suffer when they don't move at all. Maybe fit a stoplock pro and disconnect the throttle as theft prevention?
