0.50 cal fired at my tyre !

Post by Burty » Mon May 21, 2018 8:12 pm

Well not quite but take a look at the photo of my punctured tyre when it came off the rim. The metal rod that pierced it is 80mm long and 10mm in diameter - to see how far it had penetrated into the carcass was quite something.
The tyre picked it up on the Cambridge/Huntingdon A14, which for those of you well versed in notorious trunk roads will know is probably one of the UK's worse. Thankfully, the TPMS alerted us with a scary flashing red symbol and we were able to pull off down a quiet road before it went completely flat.
Due to a cracked rim in France (replaced with a new one sent from Germany - cost: don't ask !) I have a spare wheel (£80 repair plus a £40 tyre) so 20 minutes of sweating resulted in us being back on our way home.
One thing I did find though was that the cheap mechanical scissor-jack I'd bought was bloody hard work so I needed something a little more efficient. Amazon came up with a nice bit of kit: 'Fishtec 12V Electric Scissor-Jack', complete with TUV-approved extendable brace and x4 sockets in a sturdy case. Tried it out on my drive and it had the wheel in the air in less than a minute using the 2-button remote control - perfecto.
A bit of plastic surgery on the black underfloor compartment has it safely tucked away - hopefully to never be needed again but at least I'll not feel so stressed if we do get involved in a drive-by shooting again.

When I clicked on this thread I was expecting to see a picture with most of a wheel missing. Disappointing.
