Ceramic Disc Bolts

Post by fatnfunny » Wed Apr 25, 2018 3:47 pm

Looking for a bit of advice guys.

A while back there was a post stating service campaigns. One was 46F2: Replace bolts securing ceramic discs to hub.

During my Bilsteins being fitted, the guy that was fitting them noticed one of the bolt heads missing and some were loose. So they were tightened back to 14Nm and long story short, a brake specialist had a look, changed one of the bolts, but said that it looks like the bolts are corroded.

I called Audi UK with VIN but they said there wasnt a recall on my car. Looking into things more in depth, i think the ceramics were added after the build after reading the spec of order of the car. I have receipts of the kits bought for the car. If this is an audi kit, surely they are liable for changing the bolts on separate kits bought and not just on car builds?

Where do you think i stand, as i like to have a perfect car and want these bolts changed, but at £55 a bolt.....there being 10 per hub, its a pricey change.

I have written a letter to Audi UK but have just read through the order spec and have come to the conclusion that they say mine was not due for a recall as it never had ceramics fitted from the build.

Cheers

I have added Ceramics to my car and used an Audi supplied kit.

The Specialist that supplied and fitted recommended this route, despite the considerable cost over second hand, in case there were issues down the line which I was told in rare cases there can be (with cracking under hard - but not excessive - use etc).

I would imagine you'd need to track down the source of your Ceramics and maybe even who ordered them/when/from where etc.

You might get some Audi goodwill if you still use a dealership for elements of maintenance for your car but other than that I can see you with an uphill struggle to get them to pay.

Maybe your letter to Audi UK will help? That's what i would do...

Hope that helps even if a little gloomy..

Would a issue with these bolts lead to a knocking sound while braking??
Not sure if bolts on mine have or were due to be replaced

They were new. They were ordered and I have a receipt of sale. A company in America as the previous owner shipped the car there to have the charger fitted. Somehow he managed to use the car on US roads for 2 years while living in North Carolina. He then shipped the car back to the U.K. It was a guy originally from Holland and ordered it in through a Dutch garage.

I’m presuming the kit was bought before the recall was done or the kit had never got the bolts to be replaced. I will await the reply from Audi uk I think, forward on receipts etc. I think the kit was just shy of $8k.
