Recently fitted ceramics

Post by SimonS4MTM » Thu Apr 12, 2018 8:04 pm

So I have recently fitted ceramics to my RS4. Not had much opportunity to test them out yet but the more I do the more I am impressed with them.

Also just put my summer wheels and tyres on so getting much better feedback. I have to say that the more I use them the more impressed I become. They are feeling so much better than the steel set up. I thought the steels where good but this is a different level.

Time will tell if this is just a honeymoon period but if anyone is ever thinking of fitting these - just do it, you won’t regret.

Looking forward to lots of opportunities for spirited driving.

This is my second car with ceramics and I haven’t noticed any difference within the miles I’ve driven versus the versions I drove or owned without. In fairness though I don’t drive or brake aggressively on the road and I don’t drive road cars on race tracks so my thoughts on the matter are purely subjective.

This is what made me think twice about outlaying for them, I could of had Dougs just before Xmas but the more I thought about it I just couldn't justify the outlay, especially so close to Xmas, the Mrs wouldn't have been happy with just a pair of knickers as a present

I don't tend to brake hard at all on the road, I lift off and roll through most corners rather than speed into them and slam the brakes on, saves the tyres as well. The only time I've really leant on the brakes was in Wales last year when a group of us went from here, and although they did fade slightly that was after a good few hours of thrashing it. Once you get the standard brakes up to temp they are perfectly capable.

I'm not knocking Ceramics at all, everyone I've known who's had them loves them, I've just never seen the need for normal road use. :thumb:

I can't wait to ditch the rubbish steels and get back on to ceramics.

Ceramics are much better, lighter, better feel (for me) less wheel cleaning too :biggrin3:

I'd like some just for the lack of brake dust

I had a m5 f10 without ceramics and then one with. The difference was truly unreal not just in braking but in how crashy the ride was how it felt on the road.

I dont think i would buy another performance german car without them

A complete newbie to ceramics - what's the longevity of them compared to steels? I may have to save up for some for when the current steels expire

Ceramic discs last between 4-5 times longer than steels, pads wear out the same as steels.

Bear in mind that most of the dust is from the pads, though.

And you'll be disappointed if you expect as huge a difference as suggested by some, I'm afraid.
