Shark Fin on a saloon

Post by deanos999 » Sun Feb 18, 2018 9:09 am

Maybe posted before, but what’s the best option to get reception on my RS4. I believe the aerial is built into the heated rear window and basically doesn’t work!! Can it be rectified or could I fit a shark fin, genuine of course, where these fitted to the avant??
Any help appreciated.

Swapped the whole system out and went for the Alpine x8000-U. Not the cheapest option I know but a great choice and fits so well in replace of the rnse. DAB shark fin aerial fitted with it.

Shark fin will make it less "standard" than a head unit swap though.

I’m not a 100% myself, henc my original question on this post, there are a few listed on eBay but was after some firm advice. Or can the original problem with the aerial be rectified.

Normally the problem with the aerial is the aerial amplifier in the the boot isn't it?

Did you come to a conclusion. Can weak signal be solved with a new shark fin Ariel?

I think the issue is powering up the cars amp which is the issue but if you want dab then you don't have many options but a fin.

The aerial booster is in the roof on the Saloon, right at the back window there is a panel in the roof which comes out, it's under then. I have spoken to people who have replaced the amplifier with no change, had the aerial tested as working. The RNSE radio signal degrades over time. There is someone on eBay refurbing them.

I have an A4 Avant with an RNSE 2 in it which has crap radio signal, when I got my new RS I took the RNSE 1 out of it and fitted it to the A4 and the signal was perfect. I think the issue lies with the RNSE in some cases.
