Audi dealer - issues using own oil

Post by neil_f » Thu Feb 08, 2018 2:29 pm

Phoned my local audi dealer (Hamilton Audi ) to get a price for interim a service with me supplying the oil. They've come back saying they will only use my oil if it's Shell or Castrol as Audi don't recommend any other brand. I've already bought Fuchs Titan online due to various recommendations on here . I've now got it booked into a local vw/audi specialist but they are near enough the same price as Audi so would have been nice to have the Audi stamp. The Indy does use genuine audi filters etc at least. Don't see why they're so picky given it is the same rating that they've suggested and confirms to all vag approval. Anyone else had the same issue using dealers ?

Been using Fuchs at Southend Audi for a few years now without any issues, before that I gave them Castrol.

Fuchs is VW/Audi Approved so there should be no issue. I had my last service done with Fuchs Titan oil and it wasn't even questioned. This was at a main dealers.

I supply castrol edge when my car goes into glasgow audi, so never an issue. Nearly choked when told they charge £218 for using their oil.
They did say if it's not the correct oil they won't use it, so they're probably picky about the oil manufacturer too. Next time don't buy Fuchs....

It's just service advisors not knowing their @ss from their elbow. As long as the oil for your chosen service regime is type approved, then it's fine to use.

Have a look at this link, I appreciate it's for Audi USA but you get the picture - https://www.audiusa.com/content/dam/aud ... lletin.pdf

The workshop manager has stated they won't do it unless it is the makes they've specified even though I pointed out it's the exact same spec as shell or castrol . He also wanted to see a receipt to prove I'd bought it ( which I have anyway) and said it had to be in sealed containers as well. Booked in with the indy now anyway as can't be bothered arguing with them about it .

Poor customer relations there, manager sounds like a right c**k. It's the easiest money (£130) they can make...change the oil & filter...run round it and video it from a phone then give it back. I even tell them not to wash & valet mine.
