New clutch an parts for supercharger power

Post by Lukes3 » Sat Jan 13, 2018 1:11 pm

Can anyone recommend a clutch kit that will do for holding the power an having a little beating and not giving up,
I have been reading on here an it says a new oem clutch with all the other parts will do just fine for abit but i dont mind spending that little more for a better kit.
Also needs to drive nice aswell and cant have a lightweight flywheel due to the tts supercharger kit having a light weight front pully.
Cheers.

I thought mrc recommend oem but tts something a bit stronger. I'd think Mrc's advice would be sound. This is assuming you're not going for the 900hp kit, that's a different ball game.

the stock clutch will do just fine with the tts kit because its not making that much more torque then factory, when you start running 400 fptorque thats when you need to upgrade to a stronger clutch, the power of the tts kit is very linear ,but all depends how much you beat on the clutch,i would recommend to upgrade to a stage 2 clutch

Why can’t you run a lightweight flywheel with the lightweight pulley?

Because the front pulley “damper” as been replaced with a single billet aluminium pulley with no dampening, you can get away with this because the car comes with a Dualmass flywheel what takes it.
If you replacing the flywheel with a single mass light weight flywheel there is nothing taking the vibration/hits away directly to the crank
End result will be the crank been knocked out.
I think this makes sense

I run a JHM Stage 3 clutch with a lightweight flywheel. So I wouldn’t be able to supercharge mine unless I changed my flywheel back to a dual mass one?

Yes i think that is correct, unless someone else knows different?
That is why i dont know what clutch to go for, because most of the upgraded kit have lightweight flywheels

Duel-mass lightweight if one can be found? Or single-mass lightweight

Intrested in this. Want to swap mine over soon before supercharging.
Rather get it right now than change twice
Previously big turbo'd mk4 golf, big turbo'd Audi A3 Quattro
Currently remapped vw caddy
& 2009 rs4 saloon, TTS supercharged, mrc mapped, miltek catback, kwv3, h&r arbs, gutted precats, ceramic brakes 610bhp 👍

It does make sense, but it's wrong. The dual mass flywheels don't prevent vibrations in the engine, they aim to prevent sending those vibrations down the driveline. Hence gearbox chatter etc with a single mass one. It's a comfort/refinement thing more than anything else.

I can't recall hearing of any supercharged cars on the other side of the pond developing engine issues due to lack of damping in the pulley or flywheel.

Thanks for that,
So if i get all the gear it should be fine.
