Good morning and happy year!
I have a question about the oil consumption of our cars. It's my first v8, I come from a m3 e46 and it never consumed me oil. Towards oil changes every 10,000. The Rs4 accuses me in the fis minimum level of oil every 2,600 or 3,000 km with 10w40 oil. To say that I live in the Canary Islands the minimum temperature now in winter is 7 ° C (only in the morning) then up to about 20 ° c. In summer it can up 35 ° c 37 ° c
1° - Is it normal?
2° - what difference in Liters are there between maximum and minimum?
3° - can I put a more suitable oil that consumes less?
Thanks!

Consumption oil rs4 b7
Check the pcv valve and oil breather pipe first. RS4 is using 5w40 and 5w30 oils.
Im using 5w40 miller nano drive and after 4000km still no consumption
But this V8 usualy eat 1l/5-6000km

Just for info....
I had my RS4 serviced with Audi earlier this year and they used Shell Helix pro 0w30.
Noticed the oil gets a few degrees warmer than previous with castrol edge 5w40..
Don't fully understand the ratings but info all the same.

The oil ratings are its viscosity when cold (the number before the W) and warm (the number after it). Lower the number, the thinner the oil (very roughly speaking!). This under standard testing.
"Thick" oil isn't necessarily "better" for an engine. Go with manufacturer specs. They know the tolerances within an engine and therefore what oil should be used
(Mine doesn't use much oil compared to some I've heard of...but does need a litre or so typically between services - say 7k miles. It seems to find its own level generally. Remember to test it on a flat surface and run it for a bit before dipping).

In the UK it should use 5w30, not sure about other countries though.Lucasjs33 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 31, 2017 2:52 pmGood morning and happy year!

These engines generally burn more oil the older the oil gets so for me it would use none in the first 6000 miles or so after an oil change then progressively get worse using a litre every few thousands miles so yours doesn't sound too far off as long as it doesn't do it with fresh oil.
I think it's about 1 litre from minimum to maximum.
Re: Consumption oil rs4 b7
thanks for the answers, I've noticed that when you smell the oil meter, it has a slight smell of gasoline
