Headlight level sensor

Post by Huwbert » Sun Dec 10, 2017 9:33 pm

Just realised that my headlights don't do a level adjustment when first turned on. Does anyone know where the sensor is, i'm guessing it's around the rear axle somewhere? Anyone changed it? Ideas of price?

If it wasn't working you'd normally get a yellow light on the dash. From memory there are 2 sensors, one front and one rear, can't remember which sides unfortunately.

Is it meant to do a level adjustment?

I have dynamic headlights so they do up/down left/right. Not sure if non-dynamic are supposed to do an up/down. My B5 did not.

AFAIK they have to self level by law(xenon/HID) but mine are too low, can't see a bloody thing! Hadn't really thought about it until i got in the S1 and it did the up/down thing, then realised that the RS4 didn't do that.

When my level sensor went the headlights stopped the start-up dance and defaulted to a pointing down when dipped mode presumably designed to not dazzle anyone. There were no warning lights.
