Does the ‘640 mod’ work on our cars?

Been looking into this mod as it seems that it improves steering response by removing one of the steering relays from the fuse box.

Has anyone done it and what’s your feedback?

Try it and then report back. Should we not hear from you, then it's safe to assume that it doesn't work.

What’s wrong with the B7’s steering response?

I asked my steering wheel if it was having a good day, it called me a knob, maybe that's the issue

Can lack “feel” therefore this mod gives you more.

Our Rs4’s have servotronic steering to make them light. 640 is the relay in the fuse box which controls the servotronic system. Just required it to be removed. The steering still works but should feel more planted.

Seems to be a favourite mod on the other side of the pond. And it’s free!

from what i have heard somewhere it only applies for low speed like parking and manouvering , once used on road above a certain speed pressure is constant so feels like it should , see what happens then. but i like it is , feels nice and stiff for me so wont be done

Lower it or put it on coilovers and it should feel a bit more planted. Should get a more stiffer feedback from the steering.

^ as Hyfr says. Totally necessary I’m an S4, totally unnessary in the RS4. Would just make it very heavy at low speeds.

What they said. RS4 has the heaviest steering from a4,s4. So totally unnecessary to make it even heavier. It’s a heavy car and you need this minimal assistance that RS4 already has. In my opinion, it’s perfect. After having done 15+ track days in it, i can categorically say you don’t need any heavier steering. It’s very precise and informative.

But yeah if you feel it’s too light, just remove the relay. Did that on my A4 before. And Put it back next day...

If you want to go heavy, disconnect the power stearing pump :drink:

I did it on my RS4 and had it removed for a couple of years. Only put the relay back in when I sold it.

Is this for your B6/7 mash-up? If so, what steering components are you using? the parts from the B7 i presume? If so, I wouldn't change anything. If it doesn't feel right maybe it's not fitted right?

The B7 steering is awesome, as everyone says. Even B8 owners say it is still better than their newer cars.

Yes it would be. The current steering is B7. Was more curious to get feedback from anyone that had actually done it.

I’ll give it a go; nothing ventured nothing gained!!
