"When the discs are in a new condition, the friction faces are covered with a complex and varied expansion crack microstructure. Individual thermal expansion cracks run partially along the perforation holes. This crack microstructure is pronounced in places... The thermal expansion crack microstructure occurs during the production process and is not an indication of a problem" Just had a read up on this doesn't seem like an issue, quote is from Quattro Quaterly in 2011!

When I had my B7, I had a lot of issues with the steel fronts and brake judder (well documented on here around 2011) which in the end were replaced by Audi under warranty with a ceramic setup. Notably better in all aspects of their performance, with the benefit of no brake dust on the front alloys, no rusty discs, plus they look infinity better and the judder was permanently cured. In fact I was so impressed with them, that when I decided to change to a B8, the replacement car had to have ceramics. I was lucky to find one in my choice of colour with a superb spec, and the brakes are still superb today and I would have no hesitation in recommending them.
If the car ticks a lot of your boxes, and has ceramics, I know what I would be doing......

As long as the surface of the discs ceramics are still smooth they will be good, its when pitting starts, you know they need replacing. The 911 PCCB rotors that get trashed tend to be cars that get tracked a lot, so although people do track B7s, its an unlikely choice for a full time track slag, so considering the rotors are rated for 300,000km, you should be fine.

When they are quite new you can even see the weave of the carbon at certain angles, even up to 20k if used gently

When fitting ceramics to a car that has had steel set up, does the car need telling that it's now running ceramics??

Ceramics - front and rear?

Here are mine to compare as said as long as the disc face is smooth and no chips on the disc at all they should be ok
From the pics posted they do look ok to me
Pads are not that costly I replaced mine my self genuine Audi were £370
Very easy to do

When having ceramics fitted and the conditions are wet once you use the wipers the brakes pulse to clear water from surface of the disc again easy to do via Vag Com

Ceramics are great I’ve used mine on track no fade whatsoever and you will never experience disc warp

Pad pic for easy reference if replacements are needed Image

Mat have you done a deal to swap the brakes with this particular car? I know the dealer was entertaining the idea after a couple of people contacted him.

Yeah I spoke to him early last
Week about it.
He's having my steels in return. My discs and pads are only 2000miles old.
Been after a set for 12months now, missed some before so couldn't let these pass.

He’s a nice guy, I said to him that he might be better off keeping them on it when I see it as it’s those that make it stand out but he liked the idea from you and thought he’d still get close for the car without.

Dose anyone know the thickness of new discs? As there is a set on ebay but the thickness seems low, i know the minimum is 37.4mm
An there is wear indicators showen on the audi pdf posted up,
Is that a wear indicator showing up on andyg72 picture?
Is that coming to the end of life if discs are showing them?
