Road tax query

Post by Locosaki » Fri Sep 15, 2017 9:57 pm

I had a look at a 56 plate RS4 earlier and the owner assures me it's in the cheaper tax bracket, I thought they were all the same rate.

Are there different rates of tax on the b7

Mines a 56 plate £535!! Can't see why it would be any cheaper.

My thoughts exactly, I didn't argue just nodded and kept talking, I thought I could have out via DVLA with the reg no.

The date is 23rd March 2006. The date of the Budget!

'cheaper tax bracket' is definitely becoming a mis-used car-advert cliché, just like 'fully loaded', 'full service history' etc etc, automatically copied and pasted into the advert ny the creator on autopilot

Only really applies to high C02 cars (225+ g/km iirc) that got their own higher tax bracket after this date. So, yes, as above, a B7 RS4 registered 1st March pays half the tax of one registered 1st April. Only saloons were available at launch - hence all the Cabs and Avants are the higher band

I have seen a 56 reg car with £305 or something like that which should have been at £505. It was def below £325 figure. Put it down to mistakes at dvla. Lucky for the owner.

Easy enough for you to check out online with dvla though.

It's a load of crap, how can the same car with the same engine be a higher tax bracket because it's newer

Try Rep of Ireland lads...

€1809 for an RS4 on our CC based system.
If you were brave enough to buy in 2008 we moved to the CO2 system, that's €2350 :bash:

Yeah feel for Mike. There were a load of 2.0l + petrols for sale around that time coming north.

If anyone bought an RS4 over another one because it was "in the cheaper tax bracket" then an RS4 is clearly not the car for them

Talking from a UK perspective of course

I bought my 2006 saloon (registered 6th March) in 2011 so tax savings of over £2500 have certainly helped in the running costs, particularly a replacement engine in 2018 !

It certainly acts as a small incentive to keeping it.
