Ceramic brakes .. fitment advice

Post by maars » Thu Sep 07, 2017 2:02 am

I'm looking for some help on finding an equivalent setup for the OEM B7 ceramic brakes - 380x38mm.

Are these the correct part numbers for the OEM setup?
8E0 615 107 A - Brembo 6-pot caliper, left
8E0 615 108 A - Brembo 6-pot caliper, right
4E0 698 151 G - brake pad set
8E0 615 437 - contact set (pad wear sensors)
8E0 615 301 AG - ceramic brake disc, left
8E0 615 302 D - ceramic brake disc, right

Since the RS4 B7 ceramics are incredibly rare, I'm looking at S8 and R8 options.
R8
Left disc 420.615.301 K ..or.. 420.615.107 A
Right disc 420.615.302 G ..or.. 420.615.108 A

S8
Left disc 4E0.615.301 AA
Right disc 4E0.615.602 B

The question is, which is the closest to the B7 setup?
And are the R8/S8 calipers interchangeable?

Has anyone fitted R8/S8 carbon rear discs?
The S8 is fitted with an Electronic Parking Brake, so what's the best alternative?

I'm sure @jonytek has done something similar on his car - viewtopic.php?f=121&t=121686&start=90

Not quite Ozzy. I do have rears off an r8 but they are steel and the disks were not off an r8. I can't remember the model they can off though, I need to find out and can if you want as a few people have asked. These bolted on with an adapter kit that I found.

The fronts are off an Rs4 so they bolted straight on.

There's a member here softishman who has just fit a 400mm set off an s7. Speak with him because this setup is awesome.

Another option is to buy techyreg's full set that he has for sale in the party's section. They would need some work to fit but might be an option if you're up for a project.

Would you mind confirming the part numbers for the disc, capliers, and brackets please.
Did you have to fit new stone guards at the back of the front discs?

I'll do my best. I don't keep the car at home so i'll try to get past there over the weekend. I'm away on holiday for a couple of weeks from Monday though.

No brackets required as the fronts bolted straight on. I didn't bother with new stone guards.

Here i am!! As Jony says, i am putting a S6/S7/S8 400mm veramic setup on my car! AND the 370mm rear setup that also comes from rs6/rs7 but removing the electrical motor on the calipers and use a separate handbrake caliper. I got Ferrari handbrake calipers cheap so will be using them.
About art numbers;

4H0615108D brake caliper front right
4H0615107D brake caliper front left
Note, these numbers can not be seen on the caliper! There are another number on them refering to a complete brake kit..
4H0698151C brake pads
4H0615121Q Brake pad warning cables
4H0698471D Caliper refurb kit
4H0615302G ceramic disc front right
4H0615301N ceramic front disc left, replaced with 301AM or 302M
Fits A6/S6 2011->, A7/S7 2011->, A8/S8 2010-

4G0615403B brake caliper rear left
4G0615404B brake caliper rear right
Fits A6/S6 2011-2014, A7/S7 2011-2014,RS6 2013-> And RS7 2014->
4H0698451F brake pads rear
Rear caliper bracket 4G0615425/6
Fits A6/S6 2011->, A7/S7 2011->, RS6 2013-> and RS7 2014->
Rear caliper refurb kit 3D0698671

4H0615601G Ceramic disc rear left, replaced with 601R or 602J
4H0615602C ceramic disc rear right
Passar Audi A6/S6 2011 ->, Audi A7/S7 2011 -> samt Audi A8/S8 2010 ->

Brake dust shields ceramic 400mm
4H0615311F / 312F
Doesent fit without heavy modding!

Disc hat thickness 7mm
Offset 52mm
Inside offset 45mm

To fit the front 400mm ceramics you just need a 4,4mm spacer behind the ceramic disc and 57,1 to 66,6mm center rings!
As for the rears, i havent tried them yet but will have them fitted to next year!😉

Hope this helps!

Legend! Thank you. Those 400s will look awesome, and much needed I'm sure on your supercharged RS 8)

On the OEM option, does anyone know what the difference is between an 8E0.615.301 RS4 disc and a 4E0.615.301 S8 disc or a 420.615.301 R8 disc?

The offsets are different and if I remember correctly, you can fit the complete B8 RS4/RS5 ceramic setup on B7 RS4 by using 5mm spacers behind the discs, that means the front wheels will be 5mm further out than standard.

Ok, great.

Are the calipers/pads the same, or do they have different mounting brackets?

Yes, that's correct. All 380mm Audi ceramic brakes setup have the same calipers and pads, the only difference are the disc bells and the mounting brackets except the R8, which doesn't have any. That's why you'll need 5mm spacer to fit B8 setup on B7 RS4.

Thanks nij :thumbs:

So the next part of the puzzle is which bells/bracket combos work on the B7?
And are the bells interchangeable? Or even available separately?

The bells are not available separately and I think you'll have problems taking them apart without damaging them.

I think all the 380mm setup can be made to work on the B7 with a couple of spacers and/or custom brackets, but that would affect the offset. If I remember correctly, the easiest would be the B8 setup, which would only require a couple of custom 5mm spacers between the hubs and the bells.

Personally, I would stick with the B7 setup, which I know rarely come up for sale. It took me about a year and a half to source a set, but it was well worth it as they were awesome brakes. I liked them so much that I didn't want my next car to be without them, hence why I bought my current car. I only reverted back to standard because I'm selling my RS4 and have since sold my ceramic setup to jonytek.

Do you know if the carbon discs are made by someone like Brembo or Alcon for Audi? Perhaps they could supply spare bells?

I very much doubt you'll be able to purchase spares for the ceramics discs, even if you find out who made them.
