Where are all the black editions????

Post by Stiggles » Mon Aug 07, 2017 11:52 am

I've been scouring the classifieds for what seems forever in the hopes of finding a sprint blue Avant black edition, but there's one for sale at the minute and it's not what I'm after.

Why is the black on blue combo so rare???

Anyone know of any good condition ones for sale?

I'm on the verge of settling for a black black edition but would so much prefer the sprint.

As an alternative, what would the cost of the black edition grille and roof rails be? I know the window trim is a pain to replace so could settle for having it wrapped.

By black edition I assume you're referring to Black Optics pack?

Most people just get these parts wrapped or you could just get them painted yourself, wrap obviously being the cheaper option. I wouldn't let the fact that the car has or hasn't had the BOP from the factory sway you into the car you go for. There's much more important things to look out for that if you were to do yourself are going to be far more expensive then some wrap.

The thing is that I've gone down the road of modifying my previous car with countless parts, and I would rather just buy the car I'm after in the first place, as the RS4 needs very little changing in my opinion.

I know about the DRC, but I plan on going with coils when that issue arises, and the oil cooler issue too, apart from that the cars are pretty much faultless as my parents current cab has 130k miles on it with about 30k of that having been done by myself.

I am thinking of biting the bullet and wrapping the window trim/roof rails but buying a black grille, as I've done the wrap/repainted grille before and it never lasts as well as an original part.

I was just hoping I wouldn't need to in the first place.

I guess it's up to you. If you're not in a rush just hold out for the spec you're after. I know myself when i want something I have to have in yesterday... But I'm an idiot anyway and usually jump into things without thinking it through... Lol.

Was there such a thing as a black edition? why not just buy one that's in good nick with silver optics and order the parts from Audi to change them? Some people are bizarre, why miss out on a good car over something that's easily changeable 😩

Its not that simple. As the opening poster hints at above, the rear three quarter windows come with the trim attached. If you look at the two variants close up, you can see the regular model has a black trim with a chrome insert, whereas factory 'black optics' has just the black trim. So to change the trim properly (ie. remove the chrome - not merely wrap) you'd have to order two brand new quarterlights.

i must be different -i quite like the regular model trim- i think it looks more adult, same goes for me with the seats-comfort over wing backs any day[granted the wing backs are better on the eye and very comfy once you are in them]-and the fbsw wheel...plastic bottom bit is so tacky...i would swap it out it for a round one but cant be bothered to get the modules etc, still it would be boring if we all liked the same things though

I had the optics on mines changed from silver to black easily enough, I made a phone call and had it done

That's why I'm not going for the one that's currently advertised.

I'm obviously not going to buy a heap, but it just seems there are so few available.

Clutch isn't really a deciding factor and I don't know how so many of you guys have required new ones, our cab has 130k and it's on its original clutch.

I'd be putting coils on myself as I'd rather know exactly when they went on as opposed to "they've only been on the car for 2k miles" for all I know those 2k could be the harshest of the cars life etc.

Maybe I'll hold on a while longer as I'm in no rush anyways.

I'm also partial to the comfort seats over the buckets, but either or doesn't bother me

I have one, and i'm considering selling it. 78k, FASH apart from 1, oil cooler and pipes replaced, auxiliary rads replaced, front discs and pads replaced, recent battery etc Previous owner had the DRC done, loads of history etc, comfort seats heated. I'll get it up on the classifieds over the weekend :)
