The car was getting lumpy at times and they suspected the air intake thing under the manifold was defective (which it was) so while it was off Audi had their new machine for doing the clean so no harm in having it done. It also means I now know when it was done with the mileage so I can gauge the next one in a couple of years.

Re: Audi Offering Carbon Clean
How much did they charge in the end?
Re: Audi Offering Carbon Clean
Getting the car back on Monday as they were doing some other warranty work so will let you know then.
Some have said it didn't look too bad with the carbon build up but I thought some of the valves looked well caked up so if I am only charged 3 hours labour for the clean I think it will be money well spent and should get a couple of years before needing done again

Re: Audi Offering Carbon Clean
Audi charged me £210 for the carbon clean and £47 for gaskets and a clip.
I am very pleased with work. I did get other work completed under warranty which included a air intake valve. As this was faulty it is hard to know how much of a difference the clean made but the car is definitely smoother at lower speeds.
Money well spent in my opinion

Re: Audi Offering Carbon Clean
That seems like very good value for a main dealer doing a proper walnut shell clean. I'm actually surprised a main dealer would offer this service, fair play to Belfast Audi. I wonder do they offer a 2 year warranty on the carbon not coming back !!
Re: Audi Offering Carbon Clean
Prior to the clean the car was running lumpy when cold and moving at slow speeds in traffic. The air intake valve was changed at the same time and lumpiness has now gone.
I don't believe there is any noticeable difference at 5500 rpm from what was there before.
As the car is only a weekend thing for me I didnt get out for long after picking the car up so I will get it out this weekend and get a good few miles done and see if I can notice any other improvements.

Re: Audi Offering Carbon Clean
Hi - a newcomer here.
Mine's had the walnut treatment and it very much helped, but I'm not sure it doesn't need a full-on chemical clean. I have some questions, if you (or anyone else) can help:
1) What symptoms did you get, and
2) Did it cure them?
Mine is lumpy and hesitant when it's stone cold. This goes away quickly as it warms, but always returns. No warning lights, and engine is still peachy when warmed. Oh, and it has a DMS remap and has done 80k over the eleven years I've had it - always use V-Power, car is revved properly, don't cane it until thoroughly warmed up etc.
Local Audi isn't much use, this was all done by an indy. They also ran a compression test and said that 7 of the 8 are low. Suggested that this could be carbon build-up, could be injectors or it might need a rebuild. I am budgeting for the worst, but it still feels so good when warm that I struggle with the notion that there's anything major wrong with it.
So, clean first, then consider what to do afterwards - though compression-testing again would seem wise, I think.
Any words of wisdom are genuinely appreciated!

Mine was lumpy when cold and it was like kangaroo petrol when driving up the hill from where I live in low gear and slow speeds. Audi put it down to the air intake valve that sits under the head, so while it was off they did a carbon clean. No more lumpy driving when cold12th wrote: ↑Sun Jan 21, 2018 11:49 amHi - a newcomer here.

Re: Audi Offering Carbon Clean
OK, many thanks for that - greatly appreciated. Audi made the same diagnosis for me, and offered to fix it for a grand with on great confidence that this would do the job. As this was the fault code first thrown up when I had what turned out to be a fuel pump issue, I decided not to take them up on it.
Anyone know how long an MRC job takes? I'm working on the assumption it's not a 'do it while you wait' kind of thing.

Give MRC a call. I would assume they will ask for two days.
