New member looking for knowledge

Post by NichollsRS » Fri Jul 07, 2017 3:29 pm

Hello,

New to the forum and on the look for a Daytona Grey B7 RS4. I'm a big estate fan, but I can't decide on an Avant or Saloon, both look really good!

Anyway, I'm looking for some advice on a couple of things. I'm aware of some common issues but other than the below is there anything I should be looking for?

- Coked engines
- leaky suspension
- Aux Radiator failing
- Something to do with cooling pipes

Service Intervals - What are the intervals? eg 2 years or 15k, which every comes first.
Service Types - Whats the routine and rough costs. eg Oil Service+filters £200 - Inspection I oil+filters, additional filters - £350 Inspection II oil,diff,gearbox - £350

Spec
Generally have no idea what these come with stock so i'm guessing this is comes as standard
Recaro full leather heated
xenons
rain sensor

Optional
Recaro shell seats
cruise control
Sat nav
bluetooth

For me, the min is xenons, heated seats, cruise control and rain sensors. Anything else will be a bonus. Any help, advice or additional info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Xenons are standard. There was an option for adaptive xenons who are the ones that turn as you do.
Heated front seats standard, rear outside seats optional.
Cruise control standard.

As already stated rain sensor and also auto light were optional.

Pretty sure the satnav was also standard, although the headunit is knocking on a bit now, you can swap it for a 2012 unit from the A3, slightly better resoloution, faster CPU

There was 2 levels of suspension, supersports (SS), or super sports plus(SS+) , with the plus being a bit harder, and 10mm lower at the rear

The two types of seats are the comfort which had more adjusters, and the buckets which are more limited, usually if the original owner specified the buckets they alo went with the flat bottom steering wheel, the comforts seats usuall match up to the multi function wheel that had extra buttoms to control stuff

There was an option of ceramic 380mm front brake discs with 6 pot calipers, standard is 365mm steel discs with 8 pot calipers

There were 4 interior trims, most are carbon, some are brushed alloy or piano black wood, rarest is walnut, rare because to most people the walnut is a weird choice for such a sporty car

There were a few extras that don't matter much to most people, such as the ski bag for the through hole in the rear backrests, the fridge liner for the glove box, sunroof etc
Current - 07 Avus Silver B7 RS4 Avant : Ceramics, Non Valved Non Res Milltek, K&N filter, SS+, adaptive xenons, black optics, KW3, 034 rear ARB, rear drop links & front adjustable top arms.
Past - 00 Saxo VTS : 266mm Mi16 calipers, Quaife ATB, 20mm torsions bars, 24mm ARB, Vibratechnics mounts
87 Vauxhall Belmont: 1.6L, 15" rockford fosgate subwoofer in 3 cuft sealed box, 5ch Rockford fosate amp, JBL components

Sat nav was an option but almost all cars have it now although there was 20,000 mileage car discussed here last week that didn't have it.

Oil cooler and pipes will need doing at some point (the cooler and pipes are different metals and therefore corrode rapidly once water ingress occurs). Lots of threads on this.

Aux rads tend to collect debris, which then gets damp and causes failures. The left one can be removed for a cold air feed. Again lots of threads on this.

DRC leaks can occur, look for a car that's had them replaced at some point. If not it's likely they will need to be at some point. Again lots of threads.

Coked engines and carbon cleans are a very highly discussed topic. Some see it as essential, others as a waste of money. One thing is for sure, the carbon build up will start again as soon as the clean has been completed. Even more threads on this.

Hope some of that helps.
