Life after RS

I thought I would pop back and let you know what I ended up going for after the decision to leave the B7 fold was made.
A growing family (found out got another 2 on the way rather than the 1 planned... Twins rather than some ex turning up on the doorstep btw) made my head rule my heart and I needed something that wasn't costing me £120 a week in fuel and all the other associated costs we all know and love, I decided on a BMW 535d. Totally different animal obviously, not a patch on the RS for handling, noise and excitement, but it is very, very rapid from about 15mph onwards and was the compromise I gave myself... If it was going to be a sensible family car, its got to be a fast one.
The things I like more than the RS
- Motorway driving, it is a luxury car after all
- Auto Gearbox when in traffic, it is exceptionally good
- Getting in to and not even caring where the fuel gauge is at, this is the one thing over all else that astounds me. No matter how hard I drive it, I can not do less than 40mpg.
Other than that, as I said to my misses, if someone crashed into the BMW outside our house I wouldn't really give a monkey's, if someone had crashed into the RS I would have cut their balls off.
I truly miss the RS, but right now I am happy I got the big and fast BMW, no street cred but then I am a late 30's soon to be Dad of 3, I dont have any street cred anyway.
Enjoy your B7's, they are fantastic and if you do find yourself in a similar situation to me one day where you need to be a little more sensible, I do recommend the 535 purely on its mental torque and acceleration which does give me a little smile, I looked at the 335 but inside felt quite small and if im honest it wasn't different in size enough to the RS4 to make it feel special, I would have just thought i'd got a crapper version of something I already had, so the bigger car made me feel it was a different beast.
Anyway, have fun out there, and if anyone owns BT07 SYE let me know and i'll give you the lowdown on what its had done etc...
