TPMS question

Guys

Just put my 20" rims on for the summer and got 3 bleeps on starting the car and an error warning on the display - red/orange tyre cross-section image with an exclamation mark and 'tyre pressure too low' message. Normally when I swap over from the 19" to 20" wheels I get the re-set message.

Checked the pressures and they're fine. The wheel sensors were replaced last year so it's unlikely to be them, so I'm thinking it'll be the antenna behind the honeycomb rear bumper grille. This seems to correspond with old threads on here which suggest that the antenna may be buggered.

Is there anything else I should look at before I start poking around behind the grille and buying a new antenna? :audibash:

Cheers

Just turn them off, they can be coded out with the Vagcom wizadry

Have you tried putting the other wheels back on to see if that cures the problem and therefore eliminating the antenna?

Good thinking Mike. I'll try it tomorrow.

Did you relearn the pressure? Surely you woudln't get a low pressure warning if there wasn't communication. Vagcom will tell you either way.

I think I had a similar issue when I replaced the sensors on my winter wheels. See this thread

Try accessing the wheel change menu after leaving the ignition on for 30 seconds but don't start the engine.

Well I've finally got round to looking at the prob again.
Put the 19" standard wheels back on and no difference, so it's not a wheel sensor issue.
I can't access the display to try the wheel change option, it doesn't activate when I press the 'set' button on the steering wheel.
So I'm thinking it must be the antenna that needs replacing (as I want to keep the TPMS function).
Unless anyone knows what else it could be? :drink:

I'm pretty sure I had the same issue. Make sure and turn the ignition on for at least 30 seconds without starting the engine before trying to access the menu.

If you've got a Vagcom you can test each one individually.

Spot on mate. I'd not previously left it on for about 30 secs when I'd tried to reset, but just done it now and it's cleared. Thanks, and a virtual pint :drink:

Thanks to others for suggestions too.
