Clear corner mod issues - DIY solution

Post by harding » Thu Mar 16, 2017 9:50 pm

Hi, i just got my interior of the headlights back from the paint Shop and cannot wait to put it back on the car.
However, i have an issue.

Seems like you need a clear corner lens to cover the gap between the plastic and the reflector. True?
Or am i doing something wrong?

I dont mind not having the clear corner cap, but if i cannot get it to slide in properly i will need to get one.
Anyone know where to find clear corner caps asap?

Is it really supposed to look like that under the cap? :boohoo: :boohoo: :boohoo: :boohoo:

Allright! I got a hold of someone selling the clear corner caps, however, they were $80 for the pair, $34 shipment and $11 paypal fee.
I really did not want to spend that kind of money, so i came up with a solution. I thought i'd share it with you.

0. Use gloves while doing this. The plastic separates like tiny plastic splinters and they get everywhere. My hands hurts today.Plastic poisoning is just around the corner

1. First i put the orange caps back in place and measured out how big the gap was between the reflector and the plastic around it. I used tape to get it just right. Then i took a razor blade and scared it into the cap.

2. Then i started to saw it in half using a small hacksaw. I was really worried the cap would be really fragile and break - but to my suprise it was actually really steady. Please note, I did not go through it from top to bottom, i sawed around it first, making the saw track deeper and deeper.

3. I separated it the last millimeters by using the razor blade to make the cut as clear as possible.

4. Trim the overdue plastic with the razor blade and smoothen out the irregularities.

5. Sandpaper the now hand made spacers and make them smooth.

Repeat step 1-5 with the second cap.

6. Spray paint.

Let them dry over night. Or day. Its really your choice.

7. Reinstall your new spacers.

8. Use the $125 to buy beer.
