So I measured the o ring as accurately as possible with some verniers and contacted Polymax who recommended FKM Viton o rings for use with engine oil and high temperatures. Got them earlier this week and fitted today, so far so good. I'll keep my eye on it but assuming the leak doesn't return then that's 46p per o ring instead of £39. Finger crossed!

It's a fairly easy job although does involve draining the oil so gets a little messy. Once the oil is out the oil cooler hose is easily accessed from under the car. I switched the oring over and used a bit of PTFE lube to ensure it fitted smoothly.

Size - 16.5mm ID x 2mm CS FKM (Viton) 75 ShA
(Worth noting the size I ordered is fractionally larger in CS size than the original one, this was intentional since the original one wasn't sealing!)

Time will tell if these definitely do the job but seemed worth a shot for little cost/effort. I ordered the minimum qty which was 8 orings, so if anyone needs a couple I have spares.

Does the front bumper need to come off for any repairs to the cooler??

Yes if you actually need to access the cooler, there's no space to get at it from below. No if you're only changing the orings on the hoses on the engine block end. In either case you need to take the undertray off of course.

No, you get a yellow or red warning symbol on the DIS screen if you have low oil.

Best buy a VCDS cable and run a scan for error codes.

As per above you need to connect a diagnostic machine to car, could be numerous things as to why eml light is illuminated, but diagnostic will give you a code/codes and description of the fault, hope that helps.
