HELP NEEDED - Clutch & flywheel replacement options

Post by MrHilario » Thu Nov 17, 2016 12:23 pm

Hi Guys, some of you may know that i've had a few clutch issues, anyway I put the car in to 4Rings in Dartford and they are quoting me the below:

New Clutch £1k + VAT
New Flywheel £842 + VAT
Labour £480 + VAT

Can I get this all replaced anywhere else for cheaper? Would you suggest a performance clutch and flywheel?

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Cheers

Looks like I'm going to MRC!

They can replace clutch and flywheel for £2065 all in, compared to the £2786 I've been quoted by my local specialist.

Which means I can essentially get a re-map done for free! :jump_clap:

I'll have to wait until after the Tunnel run though, as won't have time to do it before then.

I ordered a few things from germany: sachs clutch kit, slave cylinder, release bearing, camshaft position sensor, which was around £1250
Rob hooked me up with the clutch return pipe which was £60 and i had to buy a few new gaskets, screw and bolts from audi which was another £50.
Labour i payed £770 because there was so much extra to be done. (£568 if i only changed the clutch kit)
So in total the whole party was £2130.

Looks like youve got a good price on MRC. Ask them whenever they are gonna migrate to sweden...... We need them! haha

Ok seems there was some confusion on the call I had with 4Rings. Went down to pick the car up last night and the guy who owns the place (who I have always dealt with) asked me where I was taking it. I said MRC and explained that they could do it all in plus a map for the same price and he looked pretty confused. He asked me how much I was quoted and apologised saying that the receptionist had made a mistake. The figures given for the clutch and flywheel included labour and VAT, and he said it would definitely be less than £2k, even with all the extra little bits you need to replace when changing the clutch.

I thought it was strange the price was so high as usually 4Rings are very fair on pricing, so I said I would take the car back in a couple of weeks after I do the Tunnel Run.

The re-map will have to wait for now, but I will get to MRC one day......

If you want to start pricing up parts, then these guys offer the flywheel for half that of Audi. A few members on here have used them.

Had my clutch and flywheel replaced a few months back, I sourced all the parts myself and had my local indy do all the work VAT free off the books.

-LUK Flywheel from Rock Auto £ 470.00 inc shipping and import charges.
-LUK Clutch kit, Release bearing, Master and slave cylinder £ 200.00 from Euro car parts during the 30% off promotion.
-Labour + small consumables was £ 503.00
Total £ 1173.00

Obviously not paying VAT has saved me a few quid on the labour and I didn’t get a receipt to prove the work has been carried out should I ever come to sell the car, but if you’re willing to do the leg work and find all the parts, trust a local indy to do the work then there’s some big savings to be had.

Interesting, thanks guys, would rather have the paperwork to prove it was done though to be honest. And they said that they might not change the flywheel if they don't need to, depends on the condition of it. So think I will just let them source the parts for me, they show me the receipts for them all anyway, it's not like they add anything on to the cost. :beerchug:

I believe Audi's fixed price clutch replacement is just that, clutch only and doesn't include flywheel etc.... I can imagine they would call you when they've got the transmission out to tell you the flywheel needs replacing and its going to be an extra 1500 quid!!
Wouldn't trust Audi to do any work on my car either after the last service I had done with them..... Absolute nuggets.

I had my clutch, DMF & all the ancillaries done as per Markwes comment above, work done by a local Audi Specialist with full paperwork provided & it all came in around £1200 inc VAT.

You'd be mad NOT to buy the DMF from rockauto if you're sticking with standard set-up. It's half the Audi price for the same thing delivered to your door within a week.
