Following on from my post where I Said I smelt burning.
It was suggested that I check my PCV. I did this by undoing the oil filler, this caused the car to die.
Is this conclusive, what other test can I do?

Not sure, but I tested mine with oil cap and it died once removed so only test I needed. With new one, runs perfect with only slight hesitation and then it stabilizes after cap is removed. My mechanic could do it on the car in 30 minutes to an hour. I hear you benefits from small and not so fat hands!

As its at MRC in a couple of weeks i spoke to them and he said they will fit a new one whilst the manifold is off, apparently they fail frequently so i spoke to my man at Audi and he can get one for £134. Does it do any harm? I noticed a little bit more white smoke on start up tonight. Could this be related, or am i just looking for it more now I'm aware of the PCV?

You should definitely do it then, and will likely decrease your oil consumption too. And close to no labor charge with intake off, win-win.

They told me that, but as i can source one for less so he said bring it along..

MRC replaced the pcv for me whilst they had the inlet manifold of and I've just tried the test again and the engine still cuts out..... Any other ideas?

That's strange, sounds like a vacuum leak to me hence symptoms are similar of the ones from removing the cap and thereby loosing pressure within the VC.

Thats what i was thinking, i only picked it up from MRC yesterday and they fitted the new PCV.
Ill give them a call tomorrow and see what they say.

Its hard to hear on the clip but it runs pretty lumpy with the cap off and perfect with it on..
I didn't get a clip of it but a couple of times the engine stalled when i removed the cap..

Ill speak to mrc tomorrow, ill be disappointed if theres a vac leak after having the manifold off and being told about the issue of removing the oil cap before they set to work.
Also there is a bolt missing from one of the breather pipe brackets and a discarded hose clip rattling around on top of the engine... not they're usual standard, that said I'm sure, as always they will help me sort things out..

Did you get your problem sorted out by MRC?

Sort of got it sorted, whilst I was testing it by removing the oil cap the car put a fault light in the dash. The fault would not delete and caused the car to run in limp mode, max 7000rpm.
Aside from this I was not happy with the fact the car seemed to pull like train one day and the next was, in my opinion very flat. So I took it back to them and they told me the removal of the cap was not a good idea whilst the car was runnning and it was normal for the car to run lumpy or stall if it was removed. Which was strange as before they fitted the new pcv they told me it was the pcv that would cause this. Anyway they cleared the fault and rebooted, reset and generally pressed a load of buttons on a laptop. Then told me all was well and of I went, the car Drove more consistent in the way home.
I've not removed the filler cap since as they said not too.
I now have an issue with cold start up, the car sometimes runs really lumpy and sometimes stalls, it also chucks a fair amount of white smoke out the back, this will only Last for a minute or so. Or if I turn the car off and restart it most of the time it will cure it. Other times it will start up and is fine with zero smoke. The cars not showing any faults and once passed the initial minute or so is fine and drive perfect...
