Need a gentle nudge to go for a stage 2.
As the tittle really,
Bog standard RS4 that needs something done.
I've been thinking about it for a while, just need pros and cons, not that I'm expecting many cons.
I'd take it to MCR, would they be able to to it in a day. And if they can is there much to do while they carry out the job? Or is it a night in a hotel and pick it up the next day?
Thanks.

Re: Need a gentle nudge to go for a stage 2.
MRC can easily do a Stage 2 remap in under a day, first they do a health check and a before run on their dyno, then make the tuning changes and verify their effect with another dyno run (if they think they can get more then they do a tweak and another dyno run - that's what they did on my RS4).
Pros? You'll smile a lot more when driving your RS4, you'll find the longest route between 2 points more often and it will make your RS4 feel more "alive".
Cons? You'll drive more so you'll use more fuel! But the mpg change isn't significant IMHO.
Just do it

Thanks for your reply, that's just the sort of nudge I needed.

Out of interest how much more does a stage 2 add to the insurance and do they know what you're on about when you talk to them about it?

Depends on your insurance company, age, experience blah blah blah. Could be nothing or they might refuse to cover you.
Re: Need a gentle nudge to go for a stage 2.
Generally speaking a stage 2 map is for a modifed car i.e air filter, exhaust etc.
As I was having so much work done in one day, they didnt do something health check or a before run. He remap itself takes less than 2 hours so if that's all you're having done then easily done in a day. Not sure if they'll recommend you go for a stage 1 map given a standard car as it is cheaper but if you really want the stage 2 (which is tailored to your car) then I'm sure they would be happy.
But definitely get it done. It'll make the more desirable when you come to sell too in my opinion.

Been thinking about this... if insurance companies insure you on a car that's 420ish bhp but we know it doesn't make it. Should it have to be declared if you do whatever's needed to get it up to that?
Re: Need a gentle nudge to go for a stage 2.
I've thought about this too before. My car, with all the more, is still below the quoted figures. However, insurance for a 10 year old car is not based around factory figures, it is based upon other claims on the same car. So the know the risk and potential payout for a standard car, they just need to work out how much more likely they are to payout given an increase in performance over all the other standard cars.
I still find it odd though that an upgraded brake Set up will increase your insurance. I guess this is based on the fact that most people taht upgrade their brakes probsbly feel the need to do so beacuse they drive around faster than most other people.

Yeah, understand what you're saying Mike.. dunno... wish I knew someone who was in the insurance game to comment... I guess mine will be running 350 plus a bit maybe.. but paying for a car that does more... who knows?!?

Quick eg. that's going through my head... get a CC so that will put it up close ish to manufacturers figures (ins. Aren't bothered) . 6/12 months later, you either do the same again or get it mapped to be that all the time (and have to tell ins. co.) .hmmm

When I told my insurance company that I had MRC do a Stage 2 remap and fit a Milltek exhaust they said thank you we'll add it to the file but there will be no change to your premium.The_Coat wrote:Out of interest how much more does a stage 2 add to the insurance and do they know what you're on about when you talk to them about it?
