Normal oil temperature?

Hi Lads.
Quick question, what's the normal oil temp?
Or when is it too high?
At a track day mine went as high as 128
And on normal days around 106-108 and regularly climbs in to 112-115 with spirited driving.
I am sure it's normal range but just wondering...
Thanks

I'm normal around the high 90s. Into 100s after a thrash, never seen it above 110 though.

Ha ha you know how it works ;)

I live my life a quarter mile at a time. Nothing else matters: not the mortgage, not the store, not my team and all their bullshit. For those ten seconds or less, I'm free.

After 4 laps of the Evo triangle, I've never seen temps over 120

Drop the oil, change filter and refill with Fuchs Titan Pro-C3 XTL and then see what you get.

Im pretty sure theres a thermostat for the oil cooler circuit.... but never checked out where it is.
You could drop the engine tray some time and make sure the oil cooler hasnt been bypassed or some such, say for instance its previous owner had a leak develop and didnt change out the hoses/cooler etc.
Average of 115 seems high... mine went as high as 105 after a damn good thrashing....

This is what I normally see in mine.

Same as most above. Average mid to high 90's with the occasional 105>110°C. That's with both Quantum and Fuchs 5w 40 oil.

128 does seem high. How long were you out on track?

I've had mine just over 110 after 20min -30min on track, at which point I'd do a cool down lap and come back into the pits. Never seen 120. That was previously with castrol edge 5w 30 and now with Fuchs Titan.

I'd recommend an oil change too.

Oil over a few thousand miles (5k or so) really affects temperature on these engines imo.

On the 'ring, I've seen temps of 115-120 from back to back laps. Doing an oil change and the next trip (despite being warmer) and the temps were markedly lower.

Worst thing Audi did was install the oil temp gauge - people get quite fixated by it :D

Thanks guys! Very good feedback!
128 was after a first run. Lost count how many laps that was but a good 40+ minutes. After that never let it go above 123-125.
I have removed an axilary radiator to make room for CAF. Could this be affecting the temp?
So what's the consensus on the oil?
FUCHS seems like an obvious choice..
I know oils has been changed in December but the car covered 5000k +-
Might be a good idea not to wait till December as I previously planned..

IMHO that's your main problem.

In nearly 10 years of RS4 ownership one thing soon became very obvious, after 5K miles the performance of the oil gets greatly reduced leading to both higher oil temperature and greater oil usage.

Changing the oil should be your first step.
