Stupid questions

Hi new to all this Audi stuff, I have a b7 RS4 and have a few questions to ask which are very boring and easy for you people, without looking stupid I'll fire away.
Is carbon build up a job that I could do in my garage ? Or is it a specialist job only, I'm not afraid of working on a car.
Isn't there something like redex that could help reduce the carbon build up.
If I want my exhaust flaps open is it just a case of pulling the vacuum pipes off ? Do I have to blank the pipes off arterwards and blank the flap vacuum end up too ?
Cheers

Hi bud have a look at the FAQ's at the top of the page, lots of help & advice there
Very easy exhaust mod yes just disconnect & plug the pipes, just look inside & make sure they are all open as they tend to get stuck.
Regarding carbon clean do a search as there's lots about it but in short yes many people do it them selfs & its not to difficult more time consuming.

FedEx would probably do a better job with carbon build up than Redex!

This is an FSI engine so the injectors are in the combustion chamber, but the carbon buildup is in the inlet manifold - so no amount of additives to the fuel will make any difference at all.

You must plug the vacuum pipes or you will mess up the vacuum system that controls the inlet flaps and the "power flap" underneath the air cleaner - and lose the 5500rpm kick and quite a few bhp (up to 60bhp some say).

So it's an unstoppable act then, when decoking is it just the inlet manifold to be done or do you do the ports down to the valves too ?
Is decoking a job for a brush or do you have a cleaning liquid ?

There's several threads with pictures and "How To" on here, best look at them before you tackle a CC.
It's hard so a brush will be pretty much useless.
